The septuagint is considered non authoritive by the Rabbinic community. Why waste your time?

Because our faith is guided by the Holy Spirit? Who, working through the early church guided them to a biblical cannon which includes the Septuagint.

Its a waste of time based upon how the Rabbinic community views it? It was authoritative to the Apostles, which means more to Christianity than Rabbis who reject Christ as the Messiah.

No, you are wrong Jesus said that if you want to know what the scriptures mean, ask the rabbis, because they do know what they mean. The Rabbis have always been the authority. That is what Jesus taught…

You are not to hold grudges. Read Leviticus 19:18. Jesus quoted that verse…

It was authoritative to Jesus, who taught from it.

You are beginning to sound foolish, please don’t derail this thread with hogwash.

geometer,
Regarding…The septuagint is considered non authoritive by the Rabbinic community. Why waste your time?
Let’s think about this statement.

You, geometer, registered on a Roman Catholic forum.
You entered a Roman Catholic community more-or-less.
You read another’s post in a Roman Catholic forum.
Maybe, just maybe, that person is Roman Catholic.
Maybe, just maybe, that person is expressing their views which are going to contain, yes, Roman Catholic perspectives.

Now lets deduce something from the above.
Roman Catholic perspectives will be prevalent within this forum - this is very possible if not probable.
Roman Catholic perspectives may not *always *be identical to the perspectives of the Rabbinic community - very probable.

And you are seriously frustrated by this? That Roman Catholic views and Rabbinic views are not in perfect sync - this keeps you up at night?

Really, sincerely, what have you got against someone investing their intellect and their time into an endeavor of their choosing and sharing the result with other like-minded individuals? Really - this is what it boils down to - what is Copland doing wrong? Please, I ask sincerely, what’s wrong with this?

No one is forcing you to agree with ***anything ***on this entire site.
People have very different opinions - always have.

shalom,

Peter K

This thread is not about me. If you want to start a thread about me be my guest…

Why is the Septuagint considered to be non authoritive by the rabbinic community?

God bless,
The holy scriptures have always existed in hebrew, and were not perfectly translated into greek, which has caused Jewish tradition much grief. Hebrew can not be perfectly translated into greek.

So do you read Hebrew?

No language can be “perfectly” translated into any other language.

But the key with the Septuagint is that the Holy Spirit was at work and makes it authoritative.

Of course the Rabbinic community will not believe this but then they also deny that Jesus is the Messiah.

So really, why should we listen to what the Rabbinic community has to say when they get the most important fact of Christianity wrong?

After the Septuagint had been widely spread, do you know which source the Jewish community had used to re-translate the scriptures back into Hebrew?

God bless,

Why so hateful?

Didn’t you know that it was the Rabbis that created the septuagint. The Rabbis created the text while under persecution. The whole text comes through the Rabbis.

Jesus said to depend on their knowledge of the scriptures. Hebrew only lives through Rabbis. If they should be taken away, in a very short time, no one would know what the scriptures say.

Why so hateful?
I could ask you the same question, yet I am not hateful, I am a Christian.

So you way.

The scriptures are the written Word of God, not what is in the mind of a certain group of people, no matter what they claim.

When they deny the divinity of Christ they bring into question the other views that they hold.

You may think this is hateful but it is not.

Why should we take the word of a non-christian in a Christian forum?

Peter K said it well when he said;

But you blew it off saying that this thread is not about you but you have made it about you.

Peter K said it well when he said;

No, your just another one with a weak identity. I haven’t questioned what or who anyone is in this thread, yet everyone wants to tell me what and who everyone is.

You should really look into why you play these who’s who games, instead of contemplating the depth of the ideas.

Be good now…

Did you know that only Jew’s directly in Palestine used what today is called the Torah? And that they were the over whelming minority of Jews everywhere? More over that the Jewish leadership never had a problem with the Septuigit until after the rise of Christianity?

What Rabbi said this?
