I am unable to hide a green scapular in a family member’s bedroom, because they would find it no matter where I put it. Would it be better to place it in my own bedroom which is in the same house or to wear the scapular myself?

Forgive me for asking, I don’t know much of anything about the Green Scapular so maybe I’m just ignorant about a traditional use of it, but why do you want to hide it in a family member’s room without their knowledge?

You can’t put it between the mattresses? Or rapped the cord around the scapular and pin it to the bottom of the box spring. Or tape it behind the head board, or bottom of a lamp, behind a picture, the top backside of the curtains. 🤷

Hmmm… You could be really stealthy and make a cut in their mattress, put the scapular in it and sew it back up… I don’t think they’d find it then. 😉

No, don’t cut the mattress!!!

But you can get a biggish needle and thick thread, then cut a few stiches of the piping, the thin strip of material which holds the mattress top or bottom to the sides, slip in the scapular, and re-sew using the same holes so it won’t show.

Try it oit on your mattress first, and before yiu buy anything, check out their mattress so yiu can get something like what they’ve got.

Altho I must say that taping it under the head board or similar would probably be easier.

When I decided to start going to another church of the same denomination, my mom was mad at me for converting. She will not want to wear it. We have moved into a new house recently and there are many home improvement projects in the works and in planning, like getting a new bed…I live at college most months of the year so it is not like if I heard they were going to put new shelves in the closet, buy a new bed, etc…I could take it out and move it somewhere else.

Apparently I’m the only one who missed the memo on hiding green scapulars in your non-Catholic family members’ bedrooms. 🤷

I just spent a few minutes with Google trying to find a link but no luck…

The little pamphlet that came with my green scapular suggests that, if you are petitioning for the conversion of a loved one or a family member, you can place the scapular somewhere in the home.

Can anyone help me find these instructions online, and post here?

Thanks…

The Green Scapular is a “no brainer” and a “shoe in”.

Ten years after the manifestation of the Miraculous Medal to Sister Catherine Laboure in 1830, the Blessed Mother entrusted the Green Scapular of her Immaculate Heart to
Sister Justine Bisqueyburu, likewise a Daughter of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul.

Practices
  1. Wear or carry the scapular
  2. To help another, place it in their vicinity (i.e. their room, wallet, purse, or all over the house, car).
  3. Pray, at least daily: “Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for us now and at the hour of our death.”
  4. The prayer should be said for oneself and separately for each person to whom it has been given (unless they pray it themselves)
  5. No enrollment of any kind is necessary, but each scapular should be blessed by a priest (general blessing of sacramentals)
  6. Have the strongest possible trust in Mary’s promise.
“The GREATEST graces come from using the scapular but these graces come
in direct proportion to the degree of CONFIDENCE IN ME which the user has.”
Mary’s own words.

Promises/Benefits
  1. Conversion of those who do not have the faith
  2. Reconciliation to the Church for those who have lost/strayed from the faith
  3. Assurance of a happy death
  4. Strengthening of the faith for those already in the Church
  5. Protection from Satan for those who wear or promote the scapular
Remind Our Lady each day that she promised and that you know she will make good.

Be faithful to the prayer. She didn’t say when, just that she promised it would happen.

Then anyone may look at the following website if they begin to have questions about the faith.

davidmacd.com/catholic/mary_in_the_bible.htm

“Yes, blessed is she who BELIEVED that the PROMISE made her by the Lord would be FULFILLED.”
(Lk. 1;45) St. Elizabeth extolling the absolute TRUST of Mary in God’s promise.

This is a particularly great post on sacramentals which the Green Scapular is.

Remember that the earliest Christians were willing to die for the bones of the saints and other articles of faith. So extraordinary were the mighty deeds God accomplished at the hands of Paul that when face cloths or aprons that touched his skin were applied to the sick, their diseases left them and the evil spirits came out of them. (Acts 19:11)Many miracles have happened and continue to happen at places where relics were stored, by touching things which touched holy people, and by coming in contact with things which were blessed - sacramentals. She said, “If I but touch his clothes, I shall be cured.” Immediately her flow of blood dried up. She felt in her body that she was healed of her affliction. Jesus, aware at once that power had gone out from him, turned around in the crowd and asked, “Who has touched my clothes?” … The woman, realizing what had happened to her, approached in fear and trembling. She fell down before Jesus and told him the whole truth. He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has saved you. Go in peace and be cured of your affliction.” (Mark 5:28-30,33-34) What some see as a potential problem, other’s see as a loss of faith in the supernatural - that God is is a spirit who transcends creation, controls matter, and even holds it in existence. And so I’ll cut to the chase… What of the Eucharist? The way I look at it is, if a priest can command that the Holy Spirit change bread and wine into the body and blood of the Second Person of the Trinity - Jesus Christ - then surely satan can be made to flee when he sees that I hold in my hand a rosary blessed by that very same priest and used to pray to the Mother who made that seme flesh present. St. Benedict made the sign of the cross over a glass of poisoned drink and the glass cracked and the drink spilt. God worked through Mose’s and Aaron’s rod. God created matter. God controls matter. Jesus walked on water. And I have enough faith in that to carry a rosary and wear a miraculous medal.

Amen Brother!

I feel the same. I was lost for 40 years until this past Ash Wednesday. Something happened. I though I was a good man. But my soul started crying. Oh what a sinner I had been. The closer to Jesus I tried to get, the more Satan worked on me. I quickly got a Rosary blessed and started praying with it every day. I keep it in my pocket daily. Satan still messed with me in whispers. I then got a Green Scapular. Had it blessed. It helped even more. By that time I was into the Bible. On the internet. Found this site. Discovered the Brown Scapular. Got enrolled. Put the Green Scapular under my mattress and wear the Brown Scapular 24/7. Can you tell I found Mary? I was led to the Miraculous Medal. Then a strong devotion to Jesus through Mary. Satan is still around always trying to work on me. He gets me with pride, anger, random thoughts that I now quickly see, and resist. All the fleshly vices are gone. So do beads, medals, and cloth protect and enrich ones mind body and soul? You bet they do!

"Daughter, your faith has saved you. Go in peace and be cured of your affliction." (Mark 5:28-30,33-34)*

Through Faith!

Thanks for your post fred conty!

And thanks for your post too! I heartly agree. Time and time again she is there with the
grace from her loving son to help. And the remarkable thing is that she puts herself at
our beckon and call for our trust in her, as if anyone could doubt the mother of God.
I believe those who don’t believe her scapulars will do anything is because they feel it is
too easy. There must be something more to it. So it can’t be true, and this is all being exagerated. And so they don’t wear them. But it is true, every word she says. If you trust her absolutely. She is our mother. As such she wants to pull you up by the boot straps, her little child, into heaven with her, and she will use every means she can use
to get the grace to get her child into heaven willy nilly. No matter what means or excuses she needs to use. She is truely a wonderful, tender, and self sacrificing mother who will use any thing to help her little children. Use the scapulars with trust and see the difference it makes. She works on us like rust, slowly. One thought, then another thought, then that thought leading to another thought, and pretty soon we are changed. And we look back and notice one day, I can see things. Thngs never seen before. If we but open the door to her and experience the GREAT outpouring of graces from a kind, tender, carring mother. Who can really comprehend a mother’s love?

Just a grateful thought from a son.

To my knowledge the Green Scapular has never been approved by the Church. I would hesitate to describe something in that category as a “no brainer” or a “shoe in”. I would think you would want to examine the history and status of something like this very closely before you even thought about adopting it.

Also I suspect your post violates CAF rules about unapproved private revelations, though I’m not certain and I don’t report posts I’m not morally certain they violate forum rules.

You are incorrect. The Green Scapular has most certainly been approved as sacramental by the Church. The Daughters of Charity and Vincentions freely distribute them, along with the Red Scapular of the Passion, and the Miraculous Medal. The apparitions of the Blessed Mother, to the 3 Daughters of Charity, which were given these sacramental s, all enjoy the approval of the Church. What isn’t approved, is the Society of the Green Scapular confraternity, which is a private association. One does not need to enroll in the confraternity or report to them.

I’ve been thinking about what you said about Mother Mary doing anything to save her childern.
*Our Lady blesses not only those who preach her Rosary, but she highly rewards all those who get others to say it by their example.
Alphonsus, King of Leon and Galicia, very much wanted all his servants to honor the Blessed Virgin by saying the Rosary. So he used to hang a large rosary on his belt and always wore it, but unfortunately never said it himself. Nevertheless his wearing it encouraged his courtiers to say the Rosary very devoutly.
One day the King fell seriously ill and when he was given up for dead he found himself, in a vision, before the judgment seat of Our Lord. Many devils were there accusing him of all the sins he had committed and Our Lord as Sovereign Judge was just about to condemn him to hell when Our Lady appeared to intercede for him. She called for a pair of scales and had his sins placed in one of the balances whereas she put the rosary that he had always worn on the other scale, together with all the Rosaries that had been said because of his example. It was found that the Rosaries weighed more than his sins.
Looking at him with great kindness Our Lady said: “As a reward for this little honor that you paid me in wearing my Rosary, I have obtained a great grace for you from my Son. Your life will be spared for a few more years. See that you spend these years wisely, and do penance.”
When the King regained consciousness he cried out: “Blessed be the Rosary of the Most Holy Virgin Mary, by which I have been delivered from eternal damnation!”
After he had recovered his health he spent the rest of his life in spreading devotion to the Holy Rosary and said it faithfully every day.
People who love the Blessed Virgin out to follow the example of King Alphonsus and that of the saints whom I have mentioned so that they too may win other souls for the Confraternity of the Holy Rosary. They will then receive great graces on earth and eternal life later on. “They that explain me shall have life everlasting life.” [1] Ecclus. 24:31*
And that is how I feel about how Mary has changed my life. 👍

**I experienced a great miracle based on the promises of the Green Scapular.

I gave this Scapular to my Father. I knelt at his feet and told him about the promises of the Scapular and asked him just to keep it - anywhere. He promised. My prayers were answered - it is one beautiful story.

If you are intending to give it to someone that you love deeply - I encourage you to be honest with them. Tell them about the promises and what you are committing to. The rest is up to your prayers and God’s promise through Our Blessed Mother.**
