Grrr.... Wbc

I am going out the door now. I think that the best way to deal with them would be for the President to exercise his authority to conscript, and to send these people into combat for a while. That might have an effect on them which would change some of their opinions.

Everyone is entitled to protection of their speech. But I find it very disturbing that these people go to memorial services to broadcast their message. I see it as cruelty to the grieving family and friends, and disrespectful to the deceased and the purpose of the funeral service.

As they point out in their own twisted way, the fallen sgt took an oath, and was willing to sacrifice his life to defend our Constitution. Then to use one of those protected rights to show such disrespect is a disgrace.

God Bless You!

I did the same thing two years ago. They planned a protest at a fallen soldier’s funeral in my community and he was Catholic, to boot. God Bless our police department…the spot they assigned wbc to ‘assemble’ was behind the motorcycle group (can’t remember their names) that always attends soldier’s funerals. The family never even saw them, or heard them over the roar of the engines. And it was funny to see them actually running for their cars when they sensed the slightest bit of danger. They also arrived at the funeral late because their vehicles ahem accidentally got blocked in the hotel parking lot and the police were too ahem busy to respond to their call for help.

I had nothing to do with it…I swear!

One thing you can pray for concerning wbc is thankfulness that they tend to bring out the best in the rest of the community. Usually when they’re around, everyone bands together in solidarity to protect the grieving family.

Sounds like Rolling Thunder. To say that those folks have done a lot of admirable stuff is a vast understatement.

I have really mixed feelings about these folks as well. On one hand, they are our brothers in Christ. On the other hand, they are doing an abysmal job of spreading his message and are driving people away from Christianity. Because of their bizarre behavior, people equate all those who appose same-sex marriage or who are willing to say that homosexual acts are still a sin with their anger-infused, incomplete message. I have to admit that I’ve had a somewhat unhealthy fascination with this group. (Sort of the way rubberneckers slow down to examine mangled car crashes.) I think I’d like to understand how a group could get 70% of the same scripture we’ve got and still come up so completely wrong! I looked at their website, expecting to see complete insanity. However, while there are still some major theological points I disagree with, I can honestly say that I can still get on board with 90% of what they’ve got written down as their beliefs. (scary, huh?) But it seems to me that the messages they send by these childish displays they put on is completely agaisnt the beliefs that they claim to profess. I just don’t get it. I’m glad they won’t be able to harrass the grieving family.

Please give us an update as soon as you can. I pray that they weren’t able to disturb the family. Thank you for standing behind the family to let them grieve in peace.

For some unknown reason, their permit to assemble was delayed. When they arrived, the mortuary security and the police informed them that coming onto the cemetery grounds would be considered to be criminal trespassing, and that demonstrating at the cemetery gates without a proper permit would be charged as disturbing the peace, and perhaps other additional charges. They are a family of attorneys who fund their efforts by getting people angry enough to assault them, and then filing civil lawsuits to settle. So the two attorneys huffed and puffed a bit. The police held their ground, with at least 50 US Marines in civilian clothes standing by with their gaze fixed on them. The end of the story is that the reverend Plelps and his entourage vacated the cemetery before any of the funeral procession arrived.

On one hand, they are our brothers in Christ.
Objection counselor! Assumes facts not in evidence 🙂

Christians are to be loving and charitable. WBC…spit

Wolves in sheeps clothing is an understatement.

Are you being sarcastic? They share in our Baptism. That is a fact. Sheep’s clothing? What they are putting out for the world to see is hardly “sheep’s clothing” and is nothing similar to what the profess to believe. It’s as if their main goal is to make the world hate them. I know Jesus said that the world would hate us, but that is going to happen regardless, if we go about His business honestly. There’s no reason to do everthing we can to encourage people to hate us! The world is supposed to hate us for HIS sake, not because we’re jerks.

I guess I’m not as understanding or charitable as most on this thread, my thoughts are probably more along the lines of the Marines standing behind the Officers. There are others far more deserving of my prayer then the WBC. :onpatrol:

I find this to be a terrifying idea.

Not only does the president not have that authority, but if he did and used it to put civilians in harm’s way that have not broken any laws it would absolutely insane. Why wouldn’t the president just put Mitt Romney on the front lines in Afghanistan? Or maybe threaten to put his children there?

I find the WBC disgusting too, but let’s not lose our minds. A much better way to eliminate this problem would be expanding private property rights. If the WBC was on private property they could be arrested for trespassing. Maybe the local government could give a 1 day lease to somebody which would make the roads and areas around the funerals private property which would mean the WBC would have to be invited onto the property.

Only half true. I hadn’t broken any laws and as a civilian, I was drafted and forced to either fight in Vietnam or go to jail for 5 years. And I was put in harms way. Your right about it being insane, however.

I do too, but only because these people would make terrible soldiers and would end up getting other good ones killed.

I like this but don’t know how it could be implemented in a public National Cemetery where there can be many funerals taking place on any particular day.

I know a draft has been used (although the language of the constitution prohibits it), but presidents don’t have the power to use it selectively in the manner described.

👍👍
This group has no more right to call themselves Christians than the Ku Klux Klan does. I can’t believe that anyone would defend them about anything!

It sounds weird but I think this is sort of their only hobby. It’s not like they have church picnics or anything constructive.

And how are we to judge those who are the wolves among us? By their fruits. Do these people demostrate the fruits of the Holy Spirit or the fruits of Satan? This is the question I use to determine who is the wolf and who is the sheep.
