While I’m a lifelong Catholic I’ve never been able to connect with the idea of angels yet today I heard a priest say on the radio that our guardian angel can help us when we are going through a rough or bumpy stretch.

As I grew up in an insecure and anxious home I became an anxious and fearful person - and its getting worse as I get older.

Any advice on how to contact my guardian angel for comfort?

Thanks very much.

Just ask.
There are also several traditional guardian Angels prayers.
I speak to mine daily, and I also THANK God for my guardian angel daily.
I don’t know how I would get by without the intercession of the angels and saints.
Just start. You’ll do fine!

I had a friend(deceased)who gave her Guardian Angel a personal name. She named him “Skip” when she was small and said a prayer to “Skip” to watch over her every night. You might try to give your Guardian Angel a name and make him/or her more personal for you. If you are not “too old or mature” there are a couple of Guardian Angel songs you can sing. You can find them on UTUBE. I, as a big kid at heart, kind of like the simple songs to my Guardian Angel. Peace

I thought we weren’t allowed to give names to angels…except the 4 archangels known to us through Scripture…

Mine finishes my night Rosary when I fall asleep. I also count on him to keep me on the straight and narrow, well at least avoiding massive meanders! I just talk to him in plain ole modern english!

I tend to trip overly flowery prayers, like ‘Hail Holy Queen’ , not a fan of Shakespeare either 🙂

Aww, come on already. No one is “naming” angels per se. It is just personal effort to make your angel more familiar to the one who prays to their guardian angel. Peace.

ah, ok. sorry about that.

i’m just reading about spiritual warfare things and someone made me extra paranoid about angelic names, lol

Well, the idea is not to “seek” their names, as evil spirits want to come in and muck up our thoughts.
Therefore the admonishment to not call by name.
But in a simple, terms of endearment sort of way, it’s a harmless practice. People should realize that whatever you call them is not actually their name, and it the name is not really important. Your guardian angel is YOURS alone…with you now, and when you arrive in heaven )hopefully we will arrive 😉 )
Children often do this, just like they name their toys.

Unless one goes way off the rails…it’s harmless. Although I’m not surprised someone already brought this up. I made the mistake of saying that I used to call my guardian angel Tony, and people came down on me hard and swiftly to slap me about the head and face for such a thing. Shocker! :slapfight:
:blackeye:
:stretcher:

4? I know of St Michael, St Gabriel and St Raphael. Who is number 4?

The guardian angel prayer I use is super-easy to remember. I find that praying it in the morning reminds me to ask my angel for help during the day.

Angel of love, my guardian dear,
To whom God’s love commits me here,
Ever this day be at my side,
To light and guard, to rule and guide.

(I live in a bad neighborhood - NH bad, not NYC bad - so when my husband’s away at night I repeat the prayer and change that last line, To light and guard, to protect and hide.)

There’s no special process to get in touch with your angel. I simply think, or sometimes say if I’m alone, “Angel, would you please…” Just maybe don’t expect a verbal response. 😉 I only started asking mine for help several months ago, and I was uncomfortable at first, so I took it slow and just tried reaching out a few times. At one point I asked him if ministering to me was a sort of exile for him, since he’s so much more intelligent and closer to God. He “said” not to worry about it, though he seemed pleased with the question - but who knows if I’m right about that. Anyway, after that I didn’t worry. I just talk to him.

Mine is very helpful with emotions, especially anxiety. He always takes the top off when I ask, and usually he removes so much that what remains is controllable without effort. Angel, I’m anxious and I don’t want to be. Would you please remove this from me? I’ve found this especially helpful right before Confession.

He’ll also help me focus during Mass if I’m having trouble. I particularly enjoy praying the Sanctus with him. Have you ever considered that when Father says, “And so, with Angels and Archangels… we sing the hymn of your glory, as without end we acclaim:” Holy, holy, holy… one of those Angels, whose current ministry is you, is actually right there singing with you? Love that. It’s best on Sundays. I really wish we could chant the Sanctus instead of speaking it at daily Mass.

I often ask Jesus to bless my angel for his service to me. Not sure if I’m supposed to do that, but 🤷. There’s nothing wrong with gratitude, and I figure if there’s something wrong with my request, Jesus won’t honor it!

I hope you’re finding the answers you were looking for, and that you’re able to find some relief.

Your angel is your imaginary friend that turns out to not be imaginary. St Padre Pio - a mystic whose life was very much unlike the average person - played with his angel as a small boy. Your angel really does love you like a father, brother, and best friend. He will be there to welcome you into Paradise, but he’s also with you every second to intervene for you. You can talk to your angel (or any saint) just as easy as you can talk to God; mentally or verbally. Angels do everything and anything to assist: they will comfort us, enlighten us, help us to act with love and to find love, and wage spiritual warfare on our behalf, against the powers of the netherworld. The world would almost instantaneously fall into ruin without the constant presence of the angels.
