I was wondering if there was some kind of compiled guide regarding the Celebration of Mass with University Students on Campus. Or is there some kind of guide that details liturgical abuse and the exact references of what is actually supposed to be done. (Aside from Redemptionis Sacramentum)

Why I am asking is because just today for exam mass, full crystal chalices and patens were used and the crucifix on the altar was just a cyrstal cuboid with the crucifix laser etched. The preparation of the bread and wine was done sitting down. We were instructed to sit down for the Eucharistic Prayer and if not for some brave souls who stood up, we would have been sitting down. During the consecration the Priest instead of geneflecting only bowed. Mass was celebrated without a chasuble and only with a stole.

Note that 2 Churches are just a stone throw’s away and the Cathedral is just right beside. There are a total of 9 altars on which the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass can be offered. 9 because one of the Churches still has 4 side altars as well as the high altar. The pews however are facing the wrong way for the side altars. Out of the 9 altar, on 5 of them Mass would have to be celebrated ad orientum.

Mass celebrated ANYWHERE must conform to the MR and the General Instruction of the Roman Missal (GIRM) for that country. And RS would also apply.

But wouldnt one still need the altar stone?

And well suffice to say regardless where the Mass is celebrated more often than not, it does not conform to the GIRM 😛

Usually a campus ministry does not have a permanent fixed altar. An altar stone is only in a fixed altar, and then it is no longer required by law, but recomended.

Pax vobiscum!

As far as the priest bowing instead of genuflecting, priests are allowed to do so if they physically cannot genuflect. For example, we have a retired priest that says daily Mass a couple times a week at the church near my campus, and he only does a slight bow because that’s all he can do. The pastor there also does only a bow because he has a bad back and has had surgery on it and cannot do more than a bow.

In Christ,
Rand

Sad to say many Priests these days do not genuflect at all at any point prior to, during or after the Mass… That is just a fact we have to deal with. My Parish recently got a new Pastor and he actually had to tell the other Priest at the Church, lucky that we have two permanent, that from now on he would genuflec at all prescribed times and that it was not an option to choose between the two as so many seem to believe

Oops I forgot to mention that its a young Priest.

I wouldn’t bother going to the campus Mass. They are usually pretty strange. Find a Catholic church near the campus and go there.
