I am always overwhelmed with uneasiness and guilt during the excruciating wait between when I sinned (usually Friday or Saturday) and Confession before Sunday Mass! Could anyone tell me how to deal with that?

Why not stop all the sinning? Why do something you think is bad?

Sometimes, that is easier said than done. What if the sin is something that has become deeply ingrained or habitual, such as lying or viewing pornography?

Turn to the Lord and repent right away if one should fall. Resolve to get to confession right away and do so soon as reasonably possible. Confess and be absolved though before Holy Communion.

Seek in the mean time the grace of perfect contrition. (which can co-exist with lesser motives by the way).

1452 When it arises from a love by which God is loved above all else, contrition is called “perfect” (contrition of charity). Such contrition remits venial sins; it also obtains forgiveness of mortal sins if it includes the firm resolution to have recourse to sacramental confession as soon as possible.51

1453 The contrition called “imperfect” (or “attrition”) is also a gift of God, a prompting of the Holy Spirit. It is born of the consideration of sin’s ugliness or the fear of eternal damnation and the other penalties threatening the sinner (contrition of fear). Such a stirring of conscience can initiate an interior process which, under the prompting of grace, will be brought to completion by sacramental absolution. By itself however, imperfect contrition cannot obtain the forgiveness of grave sins, but it disposes one to obtain forgiveness in the sacrament of Penance.52

(venial sins can be forgiven in many ways including imperfect contrition by the way)

Lying ordinarily is venial (unless it is in court or otherwise grave). So would not keep one from Holy Communion. (but of course should be repented of…etc)
Good point; I just wanted to give an example of a habitual sin which didn’t have anything to do with the late Onan. 😛

Besides, we don’t know if the OP has issues with scrupulosity.

Pray. Offer it up in atonement for your sins, and those of the whole world. It is a necessary pain, it helps to keep us from sinning again.

Love your neighbor well, it will bring you a well-spring of eternal knowledge of Trinitarian truth.

Isn’t that why God sent down Jesus? There is no excuse for sinning. If it were so easy to stop completely there would be no need for religion. Confession exists because people will sin.

Guilt is good. It’s what drives us to repentence. The time to worry is when you stop feeling guilt.

God Bless
