Arming the targets is a recipe for disaster.
Why? When seconds count the police are minutes away. There is no perimeter defense or lock that will stop a determined shooter. EVERY school needs at least one, preferably three, teachers who are able and willing to defend the lives of everyone inside the school. Yes of course the armed teachers or other school personnel should be sent to a training school. There are many available.
Can you genuinely not see the massive holes in this suggestion? One teacher with a gun or even three teachers with a gun, maybe tucked away in a classroom teaching or on a lunch break or in the toilet or on a sick day. How is that any assurance of a sound first line defense?

Millions of ‘men of the house’ around the world do that by opposing the proliferation of guns in the community that makes their wives and children such vulnerable targets.
As I said, there are millions of guns out there already, and many if not most are not registered. So when a bad guy kicks down your door and heads to your child’s bedroom are you going to take him out with your theories? Again, I am not sexist, but aside from policewomen this seems to be a concept men inherently understand. Not sure why.

The Revised Standard Catholic Bible literally says “thou shall not kill”. Why is that hard to comprehend? Scripture overrules the catechism.

It’s sad that people care more about the 2nd amendment than the 6th commandment. God’s law is above all else.
We have the right to self defense per the Church, so I’m not sure why you are so hung up on interpreting the commandments in a way that disagrees with the Church.

While I wish the US had far fewer guns, the horse has left the barn on that happening. Guns last a long time and millions are in the hands of criminals that will never register them nor turn them in.

What I wonder about now is the ease of making 3D guns and what that means for European countries that have severe restrictions on gun ownership. If more and more criminals begin using guns, what will be the reactions of these Europeans to their gun laws?

I think I’m on your side concerning the issue of guns. However, I must point out that “Thou shalt not kill” in Hebrew is translated as “Thou shalt not murder.” Therefore, self-defense is permissible.

Let me correct your very insular perspective on that. It is a certain faction of US males only that ‘inherently understand’ this to be the only solution to protect his family. They have no concept or desire to work for peaceful society it seems. They are like poor little Yoshio Yamakawa and Tsuzuki Nakauchi found 60 years after the war finished hiding in the jungle guns at the ready afraid to come out and enjoy a life of peace among men.

Can you not see it is far far better than having an active shooter pick off students like fish in a barrell? Teachers spend far more time in class than the bathroom or on break so simply by playing the odds it is certainly a good idea. Schools can not afford security guards on every door and walking the perimeter. You are living in fantasy land.

It’s a lot more than a certain faction of US males. Do you live in the US? Your posts seem to indicate that you are way out of touch with what goes on here. If it was a small faction of males, as you derisively put it, the 2nd Amendment would’ve been repealed long ago.

It’s not my interpretation though. It’s literally what the Revised Standard Catholic Bible says. Killing is wrong, as per God himself.

I don’t speak Hebrew though. And I’m Catholic, not Jewish. The Catholic Bible says “thou shall not kill”.

Self defense is just an excuse to violate the 6th commandment and still feel good about yourself.

LOL!. Ok, so when a desperate crack head forces his way into your house at night perhaps you could work for a peaceful conclusion to his determination to kill you and your entire family. I wish you luck.

I certainly wouldn’t attempt to kill the crackhead. I would rather die than break God’s commandment to not kill. How many crackheads are trying to break into your house for this to be a realistic hypothetical?

It’s already been explained to you that the correct term is thou shall not “murder”. You don’t have to believe me, the next time your at mass ask any priest.

Would you also rather your wife and kids die so you can preserve your mistaken theory?

I don’t like to insult people, but you are really ignorant. The Old Testament was written in Hebrew originally.

Killing is used in the sense of murdering someone. It is not used in the sense of protecting oneself or others from being murdered. This is what the Catholic Bible means. Of course, even self-defense in the form of deadly force should be the last resort, never the first means of protection.

Yet the stats show that only 250 of the 30000 gun deaths per year is a good guy shooting a bad guy. The rest. 20,000 are suicides with that gun. “two out of three people who use a gun to kill a person use it on themselves”.

The rest are accounted for by accidents. There is the very true anedote that more toddlers kill US citizens than terrorists have. Then there are domestic murders ie family members using the gun on each other in the course of domestic violence. And then bad guys with guns who weren’t stopped by good guys with guns because that’s what bad guys are good at.

Guns are used defensively thousands of times every year, though most instances don’t involve shots being fired. Estimates are anywhere from 500,000 to 3 million times per year in the U.S.

The increasing suicide rate is tragic. People use guns, sleeping pills, heights, and ropes to kill themselves. If you want to do it you will use any tool. What is your source for the 250 to 30000?

Your wrong again. Except for the military trained most bad guys are NOT good shots. They are often drug abusers, and they don’t go to the range. I’ll put up my marksmanship against any bad guy any day!

I would rather die than kill, yes. God’s laws supercede American gun politics.

It’s also been explained to you that the Catholic Bible literally says “thou shall not kill”. Why does your opinion overrule God’s word?
