Gun ownership in this day and age

Guns are used defensively thousands of times every year, though most instances don’t involve shots being fired. Estimates are anywhere from 500,000 to 3 million times per year in the U.S.
That is correct, and the anti gun people always fail to mention the frequency of incidents where homeowners brandished a gun to a potential home invader and the bad guy ran away.

It’s been clearly explained to you why your interpretation is wrong. The Catholic Church disagrees with your stance, as does pretty much every other Christian church. Your opinion doesn’t overrule the teachings of the Church.

And which land are you living in? How are all these teachers, many of whom have never used a gun before, going to be trained in the proper way to use a gun? What will be the financial costs of such a program and who will train them, and where and when?

I would rather die than kill, yes. God’s laws supercede American gun politics.
What about your wife and kids or some other innocent person? Should police kill bad guys who try to kill them? Jesus told his apostles to sell their possessions and take a sword. What do you think the sword was for?

It’s done effectively in many school districts in the U.S. actually. It doesn’t involve arming and training every teacher. Most schools that do it will have a select few teachers who are military trained, licensed to carry, and most even undergo extra training. So you may have a handful of armed personnel to respond to a shooter. Most of these deranged shooters give up at the first sign of resistance. Not to mention it takes away the softness of a “gun free zone” target, where they know no one will shoot back. Nobody is advocating for giving every teacher a gun that I’ve seen.

This is near where I live.

Did you miss that i specifically said the teachers must be trained? Yes there will be schools where none of the teachers are able or willing to use firearms. However, I have already pointed out that when seconds count the police are minutes away. Think about that? If I were a teacher responsible for the education hundreds of young minds i would also feel responsible for their lives, but that is just me.

How many teachers in large cities such as New York are military trained and licensed to carry? And if the guns fall into the wrong hands, such as those of a disturbed student, then what? Or should students on college campuses also carry guns, as has been proposed, so that they shoot each other or a professor who has given them a bad grade, while they are recovering from a hangover? Let’s get real about this.

Yes lets get real. There are workable solutions to all the problems you listed above. The solution is TRAINING. The military and police are trained in use of firearms, and citizens are certainly trainable. They are teachers after all.

Plenty of them, I’d imagine. And lots of colleges have campus carry. Before it was passed in Texas, the anti-gun activists made the same ridiculous claims that you are making about shootings over grades. Guess what? It hasn’t happened. For that matter in the early 90s when I lived in Texas and concealed carry was being debated all you heard were liberals shrieking about how “blood will run in the streets” “people will shoot each other over parking spaces” and other nonsense that never happened. In reality, concealed carry holders commit far less crime than any segment of the population, including police officers. You shouldn’t tell people they need to get real when you lack understanding of the issue.

Yes, the military and police are trained in using guns because that is their job. Is that the job of teachers as well? How many jobs must teachers be trained for? In addition to teaching, they already play the roles of psychologist, guidance counselor, motivational speaker, performer, nursemaid, and so forth. What more should they be required to do: police and military personnel too, and at no extra salary?

My interpretation is based on what the Bible literally says. Why are you trying to rewrite the Bible?

Your opinion doesn’t overrule God’s literal words.

I know about 20 SWAT operators and two former Navy SEALs who would probably do it for free or at least for the cost of the rounds fired.

That’s basically an advertisement for “We care more about the 2nd amendment than teaching”.

Or, it means we care enough about protecting students that if you come here with bad intentions we’ll stop you using necessary force.

No, it says we care about student lives, and are prepared to lay down our lives for these kids so no more tragedies occur.

Texas is not New York. New Yorkers are not brought up in a gun culture. A friend of mine, who is a native New Yorker, moved to a rural area of Louisiana and told me that all the professors he knew there carried shot guns or rifles as if they were part of their clothing. It’s not that way in New York City, and the chances of being killed by misfired stray bullets increase due to the larger population.
