Gun ownership in this day and age

You’re the one promoting gun violence online, not me. I am allowed to be against gun violence and express anti-gun violence views.

Also, this is literally a Catholic forum. Why are people promoting guns here at all in the first place?

It is so sad that people care more about the 2nd amendment than the 6th commandment.

I would never kill anyone just like the 6th commandment says.

I would prefer to do something to prevent gun violence from happening in the first place instead of waiting for it to happen and just start shooting away.

Show me where I’m promoting gun violence. Show me. You are a liar, and ignorant of Catholic teaching on guns and self defense to boot.
 
I find it absolutely disgusting that you want to pay people for having guns in schools.
 
Many people don’t know that, in the U.S., the homicide rate has been decreasing steadily since the 1970s. (Bureau of Justice Statistics)

With the 24/7 cable news networks and online news media, we’re convinced that the U.S. is a hotbed of violence. To be sure, some areas in the U.S. are extremely violent. But my town has a murder rate of zero per 100,000.

The U.S. Constitution gives Americans the right to own guns. So, it’s completely legitimate to own firearms as long as you know how to use them and if you keep them locked away from children, thieves, and irresponsible adults.

Note: I do not now nor have I ever owned guns.

The only reason to have a handgun is to kill someone. If you’re not willing to shoot to kill, don’t get a gun. Waving a gun in the air or trying to shoot someone in the knee is not smart. You have to aim at the chest, which is the biggest target.

If you want to bring an intruder down, a .22 won’t provide a lot of protection. (Hunters use .22 rifles to shoot squirrels or rabbits.) So you might as well have a .38 or 9 mm. And you should take extensive safety courses so you don’t injure yourself or an innocent person.

I’m scared of guns. I wouldn’t want to own one. But if I lived out in the boonies all by myself, I’d get a gun that packed a punch and learn how to use it.

Since your ignoring my question it means you would let your kids die to preserve your mistaken belief system. That tells me everything I need to know about you I have nothing more to say to you.

No I have not, though I would defend myself and my family, and I would be well within the bounds of our faith in doing so. Your inflammatory comments are pretty awful, and I won’t reply to you again.

I think there’s plenty of common ground. This is a tough issue, but I think starting from a viewpoint that the other side is not evil is very important.

Right, don’t wave it in the air, but it’s perfectly fine to brandish a gun to a would be intruder while he is outside attempting to break in. Keep him covered while your partner calls 911. I am sorry to hear your scared of guns. Go to a good gun range and they will probably direct you to a good gun safety course. You will be able to shoot in safety and under good instruction. It’s fun and challenging.

Why not prevent the shooting from happening before they happen?
 
It’s actually illegal in many states to defend property with deadly force.

As much you may want to, you can’t shoot people who come onto your property without your permission.

It is a huge responsibility. And a noble one, protecting children, particularly the children of others.
 
Where do you keep your gun while you’re teaching? Do the parents know that there’s a gun in the classroom? What happens to the gun when you’re not there?
