I am also surprised that on a Catholic board so many posters are adamant about the ownership and usage of firearms. Their priority is “guns first”.
The Catholic Church doesn’t prohibit people from defending themselves or others. It doesn’t prohibit the use of lethal force or the ownership of guns.
The guy woke up, and before he could have made any movement, he was summarily EXECUTED by the police. Bang-bang-bang…and you are dead.
Yes. I saw your “Thread”… I suppose that the Police shouldn’t have guns either right?

What you’re advocating has no basis in Catholic Teaching. The Catholic Church doesn’t subscribe to Pacifism.

Preferably no one should have.
Why do the police have guns then, if it is preferable that they do not. Certainly they are at least as aware as you on what it entails to carry a gun. But they do it anyway, why?

Kacor, you mentioned a technological solution.

I would be interested in hearing what technology would prevent a criminal from making a gun using the plans that I linked to, and then using it for violence?

But again, the fact that the police needs some weapons is very different form having any citizen “packin’ heat”.
Why? The Police generally come AFTER the crime has been committed, not during. It is the common citizen that is first confronted by the criminal. Why not stop the crime then?
There is none that I know of.
Huh? You posted this
We do have the technology to eliminate firearms related violence.
Is a criminal using a homemade weapon not gun violence? So what technology would eliminate ( your own words) the violence done by a criminal using a homemade weapon?

You mentioned eliminating semi-autos, but that is the technology that someone like maryjk needs to defend herself. If she used a semi-auto to hold a criminal at bay until the police arrive, or if the criminal turns and runs before he could attack her, is that not stopping violence?

You talk about disarming the citzens, but have offered nothing about disarming the criminals. What is your solution there?

What is to stop gun gangs, instead of drug gangs, when guns are made illegal?

How could an attacker have a gun, when NO ONE has a gun?
again, that ship has sailed
Make the drugs legal, and there will be no drug gangs. 🙂 After all the drugs are very cheap substances, and only the drug laws make them expensive and as such a lucrative target for gangs.
if only it were so easy
Their priority is “guns first”.
the right is self-defense and the tools to properly go about it
Jesus did not endorse even self-defense.
yes he did, he told the disciples to sell their cloaks and buy a sword
Preferably no one should have.
even the bobbies are arming up
The road to eliminate ALL violence could start to getting rid of automatic and semi-automatic guns in the possession of the citizens.
how would this stop the crooks from getting these guns on the black market? Australia did this and there are more guns there now than before the buyback. Read up on the gang issues of Melbourne and the gun problem.

Not really. It is still in the harbor.
how do you stop the black market? they could not do it for drugs and they killed more people than guns
It is that easy. In the Netherlands and in Switzerland they have drug laws, but they are not enforced. Since the drugs themselves are cheap substances, there is no drug related violence.
look at how many people are dying from heroin and opioids. will making them legal reduce this?
One failed attempt does not prove anything.
they don’t claim it was a failed attempt. they claim that it was a success and that you can’t expect 100%

the reality is: a gun in the criminal’s hand is here to stay and your only defense against this is a gun in your own hand

I talked about disarming everyone, possibly excepting the police and the military.
But having no solution for the bad guys who already have guns, is just that…talk.
Setting up random check points, with detection devices, for example.
So ‘police state’ type tactics are what you are proposing?

Did that work for the drug gangs? Why would it work for the gun gangs?

Or a great many citizens with a great many guns.
Not that military or LEOs are going to obey the kind of government that would try to grab all guns, anyway.

Those who want to give up their freedom for security will wind up with neither.

Elimination of violence comes from a change in heart and mind, not in a decrease in freedom. Getting rid of guns is not going to change a violent mind. They will just use a different weapon. And the majority of guns are owned by responsible owners and not used to commit crimes. So it is the violent mind that needs to be changed.

Well, the real goal of the far left is to turn everyone into mind controlled Eloi. Taking away firearms is a necessary step to make that happen. However, it ain’t gonna happen. So the radical leftists can fantasize all they want. 🤣

@Kacor,I am not proposing to do it. I am just pointing out that is the real problem. I can make an observation without having a solution. Or is that not allowed?

Oh, so cowardly killing with guns from a distance is worse than stabbing someone, or strangling them, bludgeoning them or any other manner of killing that isn’t a gun. Got it.

Easy violence or not easy violence is still violence. The mind is what needs to change for violence to end.

no, no, no, just get rid of the evil gun and the violence goes away

once the gun is gone, Mr. knife will know better than to act out of place and stay in the garage in the toolbox or fishing box. he will have been put on notice. all of the bats will stick to baseball and everyone will be better for it.
wait, what? I must have typed that when I accidentally turned on CNN!

Yeah, except that making it harder would also mean there’s less of it. Most crimes, violent and otherwise, are opportunistic, meaning you throw just a little difficulty in the criminal’s way and they will most likely give up.

Making guns harder to get just means that criminals will use something else if their mind stays the same.

Guns are the weapons of cowards, to kill from a distance.
Are you advocating swords and knives?

Well, here’s mine:
