That looks like the display at Willey Brothers in Reno, lol!
Last time I was there, this was in their parking lot. Asking price $28K. God bless Nevada!

If you are in the middle of stormy sea, then you will have a strong “will” to escape, but you will fail. No amount of “will” can save you, if you are hunted by a pack of hyenas. I hope you can come up with other examples.
in this case, you are wrong. the open borders allow illegal guns to be brought in. 3d printers allow cheap throwaways to be made. the internet allows the backyard machinist to mass produce any number of various guns. kids with 2 different sized pipes a drill and a screw can make a homemade shotgun. now let’s talk about reloading. …

I know a lot of guys who reload. Good citizens, every one. I can’t imagine gang bangers having the inclination or patience but who knows?

No doubt. Sort of like they have meth cookers now.
I’m guessing gangbangers mostly shoot 9s, and 9mm ammo is the cheapest and most plentiful right now. .40 would be too hot to handle for most bangers in their “hold sideways and spray” technique.

Eh, I wouldn’t go so far as to say that. You can make a real mess with knives. You can make a blood bath with them. Think of how a few people with box cutters made a mess on 09-11-2001. Box cutters no less. Those folks did a darned good job of making box cutters “kill from a distance.”

As part of my job, I get to see the results of violent acts perpetrated on people. I would much rather see a society where all sane, law abiding people can carry firearms than a society where only the criminal element can get them (and, yes, if you are determined enough, you can get or even make firearms).

Umm… revolvers are becoming rather popular among the criminal element. No brass to clean up 🙂

What, can’t control a .40 Soft ‘n’ Wimpy one handed? 😛 Never had an interest in owning one. If I wanted to put up with the annoying behavior of .40S&W, why not just step up to the 10mm?

Kind of a big fan of the 1911 in 10mm Auto here. Now, if Sig 1911’s were just easier to find holsters for… Cor-Bon DPX or Barnes Vortex ammo to save weight and still get the same terminal performance as say a Speer Gold Dot.

Shoot a 147grain 9mm+P, and you will find plenty of “kick” coming back at you. Most criminals I’ve seen carry the cheapest ammo they can find; i.e. Tulammo.

Ruger Bisley Blackhawk 45 Colt / ACP +p. Soon to be a carry.
Backatcha, amigo!
😎
(Also .357 snubbie with 158 grainers. Ouch! And Bond Arms any caliber.)

And, yeah, gangbangers probably use that aluminum junk. Hopefully it jams on them or they stovepipe.
I carried a full size 1911 for a while. Never was secure about Condition 1. Many legends, yes?

I always prefer to carry Condition 1. If I need to fire a shot, I want to be able to fire instantly with one hand if necessary. Not surprisingly this is my main choice for concealed carry.

Yeah, except that making it harder would also mean there’s less of it.
How well did that work for drugs and prostitution?
Do most criminals just give up if they can’t find the drugs to buy or sell. Do ‘Johns’ just give up when they can’t find a streetwalker at the suburban mall? Or do they just go to where ‘word of mouth’ has it that such things are available?

How well did it work for alcohol during Prohibition? Did people just give up drinking just because it was now harder to get

Criminals will have only slightly less difficulty finding a gun if that. The ‘opportunistic’ nature of a violent crime is only in regards to the target, not to obtaining the tools.
Actually alcohol consumption dropped significantly during Prohibition - hugely at first, to about 30% of pre-Prohibition levels, and never rose to more than 70% of the levels prior to Prohibition. So yes, a lot of people clearly did give up drinking or drink less, presumably just because it was harder to get alcohol.

Of course, prohibition caused all sorts of other problems in terms of things like organised crime gaining a monopoly on the liquor biz.

For the record I have never been in favour of prohibition of guns. I do firmly believe, though, that things like regular mental health checks as a condition of licencing could be incorporated into the process, as well as some restriction on the number of weapons (and possibly ammo) that an individual can own absent special circumstances.

A gun is a deadly weapon and needs to be treated as such - and the fact there are already restrictions in place clearly indicates that ownership is not an absolute right.

Nice. Gen 4? Mine’s a Gen 3 23. Gen 4 and 5 not on the California roster, lol.
I carried the full size Springfield 1911, all steel. Israeli forces only allowed to carry unracked.
My new Ruger only holds six, but I won’t feel underprepared. Buffalo Bore makes some 1000 fps, 255 grain standard pressure .45 Colt loads. That’s a black bear round. Hornaday FTX’s are 950 fps, 225 grain–self defense rounds. Then there’s +P for the other, ACP cylinder.
Ruger pic at post 581 here.

The problem with that is, what is the definition of mentally healthy that is to be used? Is there a definitive list of criteria that must be met, so that the evaluation becomes independent of the particular leanings of the mental health professional. Or is it up to the discretion of the mental health professions. If the latter, what is to prevent a person from ‘shopping’ for a sympathetic professional?

It would be very possible for a mental health professional who WOULD like to see guns banned to deny a license to a person with triskaidekaphobia, giving the assessment that they might go around blasting every house that had a ‘13’ in its address.

What criteria would you propose?

Or, never underestimate the potential reach of totalitarian, authoritarian utopians.

You do realize there are countless laws on the books at the state, local, and federal level, right? The idea that anyone is advocating for unrestricted access to guns is silly. There are very few restrictions on the 1st amendment by comparison.

" But always — do not forget this, Winston — always there will be the intoxication of power, constantly increasing and constantly growing subtler. Always, at every moment, there will be the thrill of victory, the sensation of trampling on an enemy who is helpless. If you want a picture of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face — forever.

I have a question (sincere).

I support gun ownership. I own guns and had a concealed carry permit at one point in time. I agree that that responsible citizens carrying concealed can be useful in stopping a mass shooting, robbery, many other situations where the police can’t get there in time.

What I have a problem with is guns of any type that can fire off a massive number of bullets in seconds without reloading. Is there any reasonable way to get these types of guns out of circulation? Or limit the amount of ammo that can be purchased? I supported the limit on the size of reloaders because I just don’t see a need to legitimately be able to fire off more than 6or 7 bullets at a time. For the average good citizen is there a reason to have rapid fire and high capacity guns? Even home defense doesn’t seem to need more than that…or would it just be a case that since we can’t stop the modifications to achieve it, it’s pointless?

Thanks for your thoughts.

Most self defense shootings result in 2 or 3 shots fired. A single action revolver requires deliberate aim and well placed shots.
It worked for Wild Bill Hickock. He could do fancy tricks but in a fight, he was all business.
