I’m aThe guy with the guns in his avatar, repeatedly described shooting guns as “fun” and bragged about the size of his gun.

How is that respecting the sanctity or life?

I’m sorry you care more about the 2nd amendment that the 6th commandment. It’s a shame that people put their guns ahead of the lives of other people.

So I should pretend that it doesn’t say “thou shall not kill” even though it literally says that?

Why trying so hard to gaslight me?
No one is doing anything of the sort.

The Church knows best what is written. You should be consulting with the the Church to discern the meaning of a scripture.

Installing entry security, domestic cctv or alarms has prevented millions maybe billions of breaches of defense also. We can play the hypotheticals all day long.
It’s not a hypothetical actually, the CDC did a study on gun violence and had a section on defensive uses of guns. I do agree with you 100% that layers of security are vital to any sort of defensive measures. Guns are certainly not the end all be all solution to security in schools or anywhere else.

You keep telling me to pretend like the Catholic Bible doesn’t say “thou shall not kill”, even though it does. How is that not gaslighting?

Untrue.
I have told you repeatedly to consult the Church to discern the meaning of scripture.

Why not try to prevent gun violence from happening before it happens?

Why wait until it happens to jump into action?
That’s my argument exactly. The US has a problem with gun violence and massacres but the constitutional lawyers have so distorted the spirit of the 2nd Amendment so as to conclude that it can never be translated as being fundamentally about the safety of citizens. It is interpreted to defend the right to own guns even at the expense of the safety of citizens.

The organisation of a well regulated voluntary militia must be recognised as fundamental to gun rights as the Fathers envisioned it. Have a patrolling presence capable of repelling violence that involves powerful and destructive weapons like AR15’s, the favourite of massacre culture. The fathers would roll in their graves to know that government would actively prevent such organisation as stipulated in the 2nd Amendment. I think it is a sign of an anaesthetised population that this problem can’t be resolved within the parameters of the 2nd Amendment.

First of all, the quote from the Catechism you cited, can be read as argument against self defense. It even says that Jesus refused to defend himself from killers.

Second, the Catholic Bible literally says “thou shall not kill”, on what planet would I read it as saying anything other than what it says?

You said that teachers packing heat would be afraid of teachers who don’t have guns?
nope, afraid of others
The Church says it’s a good translation.
it is, but it has a fuller meaning than what you want, but you know that
If you don’t disagree with it, then why are you trying to say it doesn’t say what it literally says?
because you haven’t defined the word the way the church does but you know that also
How else would I read “thou shall not kill”
as the fathers define it in the church writings but you know that
How am I the troll for being against gun violence?
most people are against gun violence, it has nothing to do with being a troll
Killing in self defense is still literally killing.
no, it is the same result with different intent, but you know that
More guns isn’t going to prevent a shooting.
nope, but they may save lives, i think you also know this
So I should just pretend that it doesn’t say what it says?
you have been, but you know that

Random people owning guns is not the same as having a well regulated militia. Nor is having people roaming the streets with AR-15s going to make people feel safer.

These mass shooters want to die and want to get ina massively gun battle before they die. Guns are not a deterrent.

Common sense gun control is the only way forward, but the gun lobby has too much power and too much money for that to happen.

I never quoted the catechism.

The Church has the authority here.
Your opinion on the meaning, as you said, is irrelevant.
Consult with the Church for the proper meaning.

The AR-15 is an easy target because it has been used in some high profile shootings. But rifles are used in about 300 murders per year in the U.S. give or take. Knives are used to murder about 1600. Handguns 7000.

You should also read up on what the founding father’s believed about the 2nd Amendment. You are way off target.

In Luke 22:35-38, Jesus tells his disciples to carry swords. (NABRE)
Instructions for the Time of Crisis.

35 He said to them, “When I sent you forth without a money bag or a sack or sandals, were you in need of anything?” “No, nothing,” they replied.

36 He said to them, “But now one who has a money bag should take it, and likewise a sack, and one who does not have a sword should sell his cloak and buy one.

37 For I tell you that this scripture must be fulfilled in me, namely, ‘He was counted among the wicked’; and indeed what is written about me is coming to fulfillment.”

38 Then they said, “Lord, look, there are two swords here.” But he replied, “It is enough!”
Footnote:
  • 22:36 In contrast to the ministry of the Twelve and of the seventy-two during the period of Jesus (Lk 9:3; 10:4), in the future period of the church the missionaries must be prepared for the opposition they will face in a world hostile to their preaching.

I advise that you discuss this with your priest.

In all the school massacres of the last 15 or so years, that is, where more than 4 people were killed, the weapon used was either a semi auto rifle or pistol or a weapon modified for rapid fire. To deny the devastating capacity of such weapons is simply misleading.

I’m guessing the number of mass shootings with Uberti Colt clones or Ruger Vaqueros was pretty close to zero.

Half the founding fathers (the Federalists) didn’t think there should be a bill of rights at all and the other half (the anti-Federalists) didn’t think there should be a constitution at all.

I never denied that the weapons are deadly, I merely stated that all rifles, including AR-15 rifles account for a tiny percentage of deaths. Less than blunt objects if I remember correctly. We can ban higher capacity magazines, in fact we did in the 90s, and it had no effect.
