I bring my handgun into the church. Never occured to me not to do so.

Makes sense to me, too especially if you’re a woman at church after dark & have to walk out to your vehicle. But in our state it’s against the law per the concealed weapon permit info. they gave me in the mail.

Not a woman, but I carry a firearm everywhere except in my work place (where they do not allow it). It never occurred to me that anyone would consider this unacceptable. In fact, I always thought I carried a firearm not just for personal protection… but to protect those who do not carry one.

I hear you & agree. Just might want to check the carry law details in your state. Our’s allows concealed weapons most places but not in places of worship.
But, as my brother would say"Better to be tried by 12 than carried out by 6."😉

Why is it “weird” or “inappropriate” to bring a weapon to Mass? Peter brought a weapon with him to the very first Mass and being God, Jesus knew about it and didn’t rebuke him for it and we know from scripture that Jesus wasn’t shy about rebuking Peter when he did or said anything that was wrong or inappropriate.
I would not be against maybe an usher having a concealed weapon but I believe it would be way to distracting for someone having a gun on their hip in mass.

It is precisely because of the crazy things that happen with weapons that I would find it distracting to know you were carrying a weapon in church. I don’t know you and have no way of knowing if you’re a whacko about to open fire or if you’re a person who can be trusted to use a gun responsibly. I have no idea if you’re a good marksman or if you’d miss your target by a mile. As to your firing a gun in a closed space filled with people to protect those who are unarmed… even if you hit the target right in the 10 ring, that bullet can pass right through and hit an innocent bystander.

I want to be able to focus on God during Mass, not on whether there’s going to be gunfire. It would make me uneasy.

Now, I do not carry openly. I keep my weapon concealed, which is appropriate.

I always love the good marksman debate, because I think it is meaningless. I would rather someone try to save a life and fail then to not try at all.

I carry a handgun, hoping and praying that I will never have to draw my weapon. But I am prepared to do so to save a life whether it be my own or another. If some wacko comes into the church with a weapon and intends harm, it is you that will be hoping and praying… that someone strapped a sidearm on that day. And maybe, just maybe if that wacko knows people carry handguns in a church, he will go somewhere else that day.
