How do you know this is correct? When was this first mentioned?
The protoevangelium of James isn’t what would call authoritative, but it’s a document from about 150 AD which names Mary’s mother as Ann. Does that mean we “know” this is correct? Not in the sense you mean, as stand-alone conclusive historical proof, no. But its mere existence shows that not all information about Mary comes from Scripture. It is incorrect to say that, “it is only in the New Testament that we know of her.” We would have known of her anyway.

What the spurious protoevangelium of James!
You should read too, or rather listen, to the Church that Christ established, not your own “traditions of men” that your pastor, your “shepard” tells you, or maybe you tell yourself.

He that heareth you, heareth me; and he that despiseth you, despiseth me; and he that despiseth me, despiseth him that sent me.

There’s a difference between being in heaven (for indeed the angels are there), and being “Queen of Heaven”.
So what do you think of the 24 crowned elders sitting on their thrones in heaven.

I guess that deifies them as well?

Or is it just the Mother of God you have a problem with receiving such an honor?

Chuck

From that simple bit you’ve cited, the woman could quite easily be Eve. But that gets into a whole different round of blind assertions, saying that Mary is the new Eve.

sigh When are you guys going to learn to support your claims with real logic?
The “woman” gives birth to Chist. Correct?

So what are the possible interpretations for who this woman could be that this “fact” would lead you too?

Chuck

What oral tradition are you referring to? Mary’s assumption is not mention until 377 A.D. That’s almost 4 centuries after the supposed fact.
Really, how do you know that it was NOT taught prior to 377 A.D.?

Chuck

Everything my Shepherd speaks is truth, there is only one Shepherd…AND that IS scriptural! My Lord makes it quite obvious to me by the “Fruits” to discern truth from falsehood!

Sure, there is only one Shepard, but who did Christ delegate His Sheparding tasks too?

[clue: go read the last chapter of John]

One shepherd is not a reality yet.

Yes Jesus is the GOOD SHEPHERD

Joh 10:14 I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine.

But there is not one shepherd yet. There are still the other sheep to be brought into the fold. John 10:16 is prophetic and futurative. When Jesus comes back, then there will be one fold and one shepherd.

Joh 10:16 And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; **and there shall be one fold, and one **shepherd.

Jesus is the Chief Shepherd. Where there is a Chief Shepherd, there are subordinate shepherds.

1Pe 5:4 And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away.

Thank you kindly for that clarification.

What am I doing when I speak to someone weak in the faith or a new Christian? I am feeding HIS lambs. This discourse was a call to Peter to self evaluate himself because of his denial and when Peter himself realized his love for the Lord the Lord then instructed him to go on and teach the truth, that is Jesus Christ!

Yes, I know Jesus Christ - what exactly did He teach?
You surely know everything he taught, don’t you? 🙂

Poor response. Doesn’t explain why Christ specifically choose Peter to give the Keys to the Kingdom of Heaven, or why Peter is always mentioned first, or why Christ is telling only Peter this specifically and assuring him that His faith will not fail him.

But hey, each man to his own. The fact that we disagree and that we both claim that what we believe is led by the Spirit is evidence that the root of all this, Sola Scriptura is utterly a failure and false.

That’s probably because Mary would never have allowed anyone to talk about her that way when she was still on Earth:p
Then what makes you think that she wants you to talk about her that way now?. Mary’s humbleness and faith in God is what helped her except her role, not a desire to have statues and prayers devoted to her. Catholics point out that Mary stayed with Jesus even until the cross, which is what any good Mother would do. She witnessed his sacrifice and I am sure wishes that Catholics would stop the devotion to her and focus totally on her Son.
Pope JPII had a particular Marian devotion- In case you never heard, he placed the bulllet that almost killed him in the crown of a statue of Mary, crediting his survival to her intercession.
If this is true then I feel sorry for the man, he was truly misguided.

Christ would have it no other way than for all of us to honor His Mother who is our Mother too.

Basic Christianity, honor your father and mother.

But the whole point of Marian devotions is that Mary helps lead us to Christ. Mary’s last recorded words in the Bible are, “Do whatever he tells you.”
