I am one of those who uses “amongst” as it is the way I learned it back in Catholic grade school.
If I’m in a group setting, I will follow whatever is the prevailing wording, but my natural tendency is to go back to the way I learned it, which I actually prefer.
I do try to put some kind of inflection into the separation between “womb” and “Jesus” even when in a group setting that is trying to win the speed record. I might finish a split second behind, but I don’t let it bother me.
Hey Barb–don’t let him “cow” you if you prefer “amongst”. There ain’t nothin’ wrong with it!
