See, you forgot the Vespers of All Saints Day…

Maybe you don’t see the problem of secularism overtaking religious feast with the promotion of things like halloween and secularized Christmas…

but the problem is still there.

Why celebrate such things, having better things to do?

Another thing, sadly in many places people only think about the secular celebrations.

didn’t forget it…going to Mass tomorrow morning. We have no Mass tonight!

We went trick or treating on Sat. and I’m sure my cat, monkey, “green Lantern superhero” and the itsy bitsy spider were all showing how evil the day is

Yesterday the kids dressed up like Saints for an all Saints Mass. Saint Gianna, Saint Julia, Saint John the Baptist and Saint Hubert…

Tonight an All Saints Day party with friends (and candy!!) All the children will be dressed as Saints…and most of these children went trick or treating!

Some how we have managed to do both trick or treat and All Saints Day with out causing any trouble with our children! You can do both and not give any thougth to the devil while doing it!

If you don’t want to enjoy the celebration, that’s your own thing. But don’t spoil the fun for those that do - especially the little ones.

Fun? You have free will to celebrate anything you like. But an event that lasts for one month with its occultic overtones and demonic symbolism is not something that we should celebrate…even if you try to cutify the whole thing.

But if you celebrate with evening prayer on October 31 followed by Liturgy the next day…then please accept my apologies.

We interrupt this annual Halloween-bashing to wish everyone at CAF a very

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

My house is all decorated and the only thing remotely occult is a black cat. Since I have owned several live black cats, I refuse to see any evil in them.

My kids are too old for Trick-or-Treating but we are anxiously awaiting the dressed-up darlings that will ring our bell. The little ones are the cutest and most numerous but lately we have been seeing groups of teens who come out dressed in a group theme. Last year there was a great bunch of high school pirates. What a great, safe way to have fun with your friends! (Note to self: pick up some extra candy) There are usually a few groups that hook up a trailer to a pick up and load it with hay and trick-or-treaters. With the houses farther apart, this is much safer (and more fun) especially for the little ones.

If the devil tries to sneak in, we will laugh at him. He holds no power over us! He cannot use good clean fun against us! He cannot make me compartmentalize my faith!

And tomorrow, due to schedules with my kids, I will probably be at Mass twice to celebrate the Church Triumphant. Then on to the third day to commemorate the Church Suffering on All Souls.

I absolutely love fall, and Halloween is the ultimate culmination of my favorite season. The weather starts to really get cold here in November, so Halloween is the last evening festivity that can be really enjoyed outdoors, in general. I love scary movies, the campier the better. I love crunchy brown leaves, hay bales, and pumpkins are lovely decorations that can be eaten after the festivities are over. There is no ‘occult’ here. The devil has no reason to laugh, we are not engaging in anything sinful or representative of sin. It’s a celebration of a lovely time of harvest, awesome weather, interesting candies, and a shift in liturgical season as well (advent is just around the corner!).

In a rural agricultural area, where we live, October is a bountiful and delicious month, my tomatoes are even celebrating by putting out a few last fruits (I am officially the LAST person on the block to have living tomato plants! I chalk it up to home made compost and lack of pesticides). I think these things are what you make them. I agree with you, Corki - if the devil tries to sneak in, we will laugh. I wish everyone an early and blessed All Saints Day!!!

Can’t wait to take my 2 year old trick or treating in her adorable, cozy lion costume. She’s really excited about the opportunity to say “roar”.

My husband and I were talking about threads like this the other day. And he said he remembered going trick or treating at the Catholic School he went to! Everyone dressed up for the day, not as Saints! They could wear whatever they wanted. His Aunt went dressed as the devil!!

As bishop, he distinguished himself brilliantly for his reforming zeal and his skills as a statesman. He brought the clergy of the diocese into his reforms, restored monasteries, promoted education, preached enthusiastically, and was renowned for his charity and aid to the poor, receiving the title Eleemosynarius Major (Grand Almoner). He also served as tutor to Emperor Henry II (r. 1014-1024) while he was still king. Wolfgang died at Puppingen near Linz, Austria. He was canonized in 1052 by Pope St. Leo IX (r. 1049-1054). I don’t really understand the hullabaloo either… I live in the bible belt, and there are really few people out here who have an aversion to Halloween. It seems a little far-fetched and scrupulous to have a grave problem with a Holiday that’s very easy to edit an adapt.

LOL. It has nothing to do with complaining or happiness. Those of us who are opposed to demonic halloween, are really quite joyous people. Christ is our hope and our joy and our light.

It (halloween) is good clean fun!

That is one of the deceptive catch phrases. The big two:

1. Good clean fun
2. Harmless fun

Those in favor of demonic halloween usually begin to attack those who are opposed, by calling them puritans or fundamentalists or party-poopers or some such nonsense.

I think that this occultic festival has been so ingrained in the American culture and consciousness, that parents feel it is a rite of passage for their children to idulge in this unChristian ritual. I think there is a level of guilt where they think they are depriving their children of “fun” if they refrain from participation. Every year, the imagery gets more sinister and diabolical. Even those children who may dress as something benign are exposed to this demonic imagery as they waltz from house to house for candy.

I pray that more people will recognize the spiritual dangers associated with this event.
