Let’s just say that you seem to be going beyond demonstrating your position and over to implying that there really isn’t a legitimate alternative opinion to the judgement you espouse. So yes, that does kind of spread the feeling that you’re judging anyone who doesn’t do what you’re doing.Have I been judging you? I have certainly been discoursing about my take on halloween. As a matter of fact, I have been consistently saying that you have free will to practice in what your conscience dictates. However, there is such a thing as righteous judgement.
“Judge not according to the appearance, but judge just judgment.” John 7:24
“The mouth of the righteous speaketh wisdom, and his tongue talketh of judgment.”
(Psa. 37:30)
“Seek good, and not evil, that ye may live: and so the Lord, the God of hosts, shall be with you, as ye have spoken. Hate the evil, and love the good, and establish judgment in the gate: it may be that the Lord God of hosts will be gracious unto the remnant of Joseph.”
(Amos 5:14-15)
“Dare any of you, having a matter against another, go to law before the unjust, and not before the saints? Do ye not know that the saints shall judge the world? and if the world shall be judged by you, are ye unworthy to judge the smallest matters? Know ye not that we shall judge angels? how much more things that pertain to this life? If then ye have judgments of things pertaining to this life, set them to judge who are least esteemed in the church. I speak to your shame. Is it so, that there is not a wise man among you? no, not one that shall be able to judge between his brethren?” (I Cor. 6:1-5)
For instance:
Where there are anti-Christian aspects, they ought to be avoided, yes. If you’re saying that anything that is not overtly Christian must be avoided, though, that goes beyond what the Roman Cathlic Church teaches. (I do not know what the Eastern Churches teach.)“Halloween has an undercurrent of occultism and is absolutely anti-Christian.”
**Vatican liturgical expert Fr Joan Maria Canals **
This is what I mean: the Western system of free trade has an undeniable undercurrent of greed and ethical relativism and secularism that is absolutely anti-Christian. That doesn’t mean free trade is anti-Christian, per se. It means that when engaging in free-trade commerce you have to be on the lookout that you do not fall into greed or compromise your ethics.
So why not just avoid free commerce? Why not just live in community and share like the first Christians? There is nothing wrong with doing that, it is even admirable, but it is not required. It is possible for someone in a religious community to demonstrate their reasons for being there in such unequivocal terms that they imply that anyone who is anywhere else is putting their soul in unnecessary danger. That would be going too far.
