Just wondering how many of you have husbands who are handy around the house. In other words, who owns the tool box, you or him? In my house, I’m female, and it’s me. I never thought it would be like this…but when he stepped in the can of paint…and cut through the cord of the electric hegder…well, I knew I was on my own…

**Well my DH isn’t handy (and neither am I), he is getting BETTER though. I could give you a list of mishaps that happened to our brand new house w/ in weeks of living here that were all because of him trying to be ‘handy’ but I won’t go there. 😉 (Sorry MM, don’t mean to throw you under the bus here but I had to chime in:shrug: 😊 **

I have my own toolboxes and he dont mess wid 'em. 😉 ESPECIALLY the soldering irons. (Things got a little “messy” the last time he coated my soldering iron tips in burnt synthetic instead of using the hot knife to finish off a bunch of cordage. )

And he has his toolboxes too. He’s very handy, actually, having built and repaired wooden boats and so forth but better with larger scale woodwork and metalwork, I do the technical, electrical and fine-scale things.

We both also between us make a range of rope work from fine decorative stuff to rope-to-wire splices, which means a whole nuther set of His and Hers toolboxes. (But the $300 Myerchin bosun’s knife is mine, no discussion will be entered into. 😛 )

So I guess the answer to who owns the tool box is we both do, depending on the job.

DH is extremely handy, he’s a farmer and can fix most anything. He knows all about how things work.

We both brought our own tool boxes to the marriage, however. In addition to the standard tools, I have a nice collection of my own power tools like orbit sander, cordless screwdriver, etc. He, OTOH, has a welding machine and cool stuff like that!

Neither of us has any woodworking tools like a miter saw, so that is on my list of things I want.

My DH is amazingly handy… especially for never having been exposed to much housework from his dad (who was more “booky”… VERY BRIGHT, but not handy)…

~He’s installed every piece of solid oak flooring in our house…
~Removed old sliding glass doors and replaced with new french doors…
~Just last week he removed a sliding glass door, walled it in, stucco’ed the exerior of the house and rebuilt the interior wall.

I’m handy… but I tend to stick to the more “techy” stuff… fixing small electronics and such…

I’m the electrical engineer… he’s the mechanical. ;)😃

Well, I don’t have a husband, but I have a boyfriend who’s very handy. He can build stuff, repair cars, and he’s even good at tidying and not a bad cook. 👍 Of course, he lives two hours away from me, so I don’t get to enjoy the benefits of his handiness yet. 😦 However, he doesn’t have any tools of his own. His place is pretty small and his salary is pretty low, so he doesn’t do much in the way of projects.

I have a very nice toolkit, though. I have just the basics - a variety of screwdrivers, a hammer, a couple of saws, wire cutters, plenty of duct tape, and a handful of hardware like screws, nails, hooks, and other such stuff. When I have projects that need doing, I can do them myself, or I can play the girl card and ask my boyfriend to come over and do them for me. I generally do them myself, though, because it takes a couple of weeks for him to get around to coming over to help. When my arm was broken last year, though, he was ever-so-helpful about helping me get my new apartment set up. (I snagged me a good one! 😃 )

My DH is very handy. He recently redid all the plumbing in our entire house (pretty much by himself!). He used to install windows, doors, and insulation in peoples’ homes, so he’s an expert at that stuff too. Last year he (and a crew of friends he hired) put a new roof on his brother’s house. Now he’s contemplating rewiring our house, seeing as it hasn’t been done in at least, if not more than, three generations. Being that he grew up on a farm (where we live) he pretty much knows how to do it all…thankfully, because I am a girly-girl and don’t do much of that stuff! 😛

He is also an excellent cook, the kind who doesn’t ever use a recipe but whose dishes come out awesome! 😃

All sorts of tools here (I’m the husband). Things for wood projects to build things for the house (inside and out) as well as yard tools and other tools for house maintenance.

That being said, I’m not a “tool” fanatic. It’s all properly stored, stacked and put away so I know where it is next time it’s needed.

I will do things that are in reason to my abilities and know when to stop. For example, I will not remodel but I will do trim work. I wouldn’t put in a shower but will change faucets, unclog drains as needed, etc…

DH is a carpenter and can fix anything. He has built 4 houses and does construction/odd jobs as a 2nd job. I’m not even allowed to touch a paint brush around here. But I do have my own screwdriver for replacing batteries in the kids’ toys. 😃

My VERY VERY VERY wonderful husband is extremely handy. Prior to us marrying, he completely renovated a 115 yo Victorian home, that we now live in. He had to do everything, plumbing, plastering, electric…
He does all of our maintenance, with the exception of the roof, I won’t let him, it is HIGH and STEEP!!!
He designs and builds woodworking plans. He paid for his MA and Dr. tuition with his woodworking business!!!
He will build almost anything I ask for, although I have been banned from adding anything else to his list  😛
He even does dishes and laundry!!! 😉
I think besides the roof the only thing he doesn’t fix is our vehicles, since they are still under warranty.
I LOVE my DH!!!

DH owns (most) of the tools. And he knows how to use 'em. Some of them, however, are around 125 years old. He inherited them from his grandfather, and still thinks they’re absolutely the latest in technology.

***I, ***however, am mistress of the table saw and the chain saw.

Okay, so I’m jealous of all of you!!

I can only do small things like hang curtain rods, pictures, and fix a few odds and ends. Sooooo, that means I have to guys here to do what I cannot.

Right now I have a bathroom being renovated. The guy here is driving me CRAZY…does great work but talks incessantly. Oh boy, he just stopped in to give me his health report. Yikes.

My husband is also a farmer. He’s good at what he does. He can fix tractors and their accessories but God love him… he’s NOT very handy at home. He’s much better with automotive repairs.

He’s excellent at changing light bulbs and killing spiders. Most of the projects I ask him to do, he ends up having problems and then having to “Rig” it. Then I usually get mad because he breaks whatever it is he’s working on. Then he gets mad.

I had him put up mini blinds on all our windows. He couldn’t get one of the screws to go into the wall… so he HAMMERED the screw. Then he was suprised when it just fell out and left a huge hole. We actually had a yelling match over that one. He continues to hammer screws to this day. :nope:

I’ve been doing a lot of stuff myself lately. Projects around home have been a whole lot happier!!! I even bought my own hammer for hanging pictures and stuff with that he’s not allowed to use because he can never find the right tool for the job.

I always thought my dad was really handy but that must have been from a childs perspective. Since I’ve moved out and started my own family, my mom will tell me about what Dad broke this week. 😛

hahhahaha!!! This sounds like me!!! My dh is a wonderful man but handy he is not! I own all the tools (and each of my kids, male and female have their own) and I do the plumbing, the electrical and all that sort of stuff… thankfully I CAN depend on him to hold things up or move heavy things for me… I think it might be better in some instances because I am also a control freak and I like it done my way… now if I was only more motivated!!!

My husband is very handy. He grew up helping his dad on the job (his dad is a general contractor/carpenter/house builder/jack of all trades kinda guy). Together they built my house from the ground up.

Even better, his dad lives next door. Anything my DH can’t do on his own, my FIL is more than capable of doing.

I have an exceptionally handy hubby. Over the years he has installed hot water heater, built an enclosed patio, roofed a piece of the roof where the shingles were bad, painted, papered, done all kinds of electrical and plumbing work, ripped out and redid 2 whole bathrooms, including laying marble tile, and so much more. Right now, he is installing laminate flooring over the entire first floor, and it is beautiful! Besides, he cooks, cleans, and does laundry! He’s definitely a keeper!

Peace,
Linda

I am the handiest husband of all. With my American Express and a phone book I can handle any problem that arises
