Handy Husbands

My DH is quite handy - he helped build the house his parents live in, is currently finishing up our basement apartment, and will be building the house we will live in. He’s not afraid of challenges - he hasn’t done too much car repair but fixed both our cars when they went belly-up. He’s also the cook for the family and my personal spider remover. 😃

I dunno. I think something got cross-wired with us.

Except that he is a FANTASTIC carpenter-cabinetmaker and does fairly decent electrical work, *I *have to wrangle the bugs, chase the birds out of the attic, do anything that needs a ladder, make sure the cars get serviced (neither one of us knows how to open the hood) and see to it that there’s gas for the lawn mower.

BUT, he polishes silver, sets the table for holidays (plans the centerpieces, picks the china from one of his ELEVEN sets, flatware (FIVE sets), and crystal (FOUR sets). He irons the linens and folds the napkins like origami projects.
 
My husband is very handy as far as know how, but I can’t get him to change a lightbulb.

Although…if I make an appointment to pay someone to fix something, he’ll do it.

It would almost be better if he wasn’t handy. I wouldn’t get so irritated.

There will be something in my daily life that drives me nuts. I’ll beg him to fix it. He’ll say, “yes,” but not actually fix it. I stop nagging because I hate to nag. Then one day, months or years later, he’ll fix it in 20 minutes. :mad:

Everytime instead of being grateful, I’ll think, "I’ve been dealing with that stupid broken door/appliance/window/car/ whatever for everyday for two years and it took him 20 minutes to fix!!!

AGGGGGHHHHH. :mad:

It is a very good thing that he is good looking.
 
Leonie… my kids favorite story about their dad is when he knocked himself out changing a lightbulb… My ex was totally inept… my dh… not nearly as bad! He can do things… he just gets unsure of himself…
 
My DH prefers not to do the tool work. He can, but he doesn’t. I do, including installing toilets and running pipe and wires.
 
I am pretty handy and have done all sorts of things around my house. My hobby is building furniture. I have installed sinks, toilets, water heaters, run electrical wiring, replaced a roof, fixed an electric range, laid carpet, painted, etc.

But I am not married.

So if there are any single ladies out there who need a husband who is handy… 🙂

Sorry, Bob. I love my job here in Oregon. Oregon is such a beautiful place. But the people here are seriously weird.
But tell me, who did you have in mind. :ehh: 🙂
 
I trained my wife and daughter how to fix stuff, so they never ask me any more.

My “ex roommate” was totally NOT handy until I taught him how to use my power tools. After a few months with me, he even taught himself to do electrical and did some much-needed work in our 100 year old home.

Do men find tool-skills an attractice quality in a women?

While I appreciate your response, I’ve heard that Oregonians are “seriously weird” 👍 – so you may not represent the typical view 🤷
 
My husband is an electrician and has worked construction for 40 years, and can build or fix just about anything. He does not, however, hang wallpaper. He does cook and do laundry and help with the heavy cleaning. Right now he is remodeling our kitchen.

I, however, am a mechanical dolt. I can’t even screw a screw in straight, and have been known to hang pictures with my meat pounder (whatever you call that thing) as a hammer. I have no interest in such things at all. I know perfectly well that if anything ever happened to my husband, I would have to move into a condo or apartment.😦

But I have my skills that help to run the household, so we are kind of even.

Hubby is very handy. I’m not. I’ll have to immediately marry a handyman/plummer/carpenter about a week after my husband passes away, just to keep the house repairs under control.😃
 
My dad could fix anything, and the only time we had a repairman in the house growing up was when my dad was out of town.

I knew from a young age I wanted to marry someone like my dad in that way 👍 .

My hubby can fix almost anything and does everything around the house. He gutted our basement and created an apartment for my mom. My brothers helped, but dh did most of the work. He’s just about finished building a new deck then will put in a new drainage system in the back yard. He can fix cars, appliances, computers, and can build furniture.

He likes taking care of our pool and takes pride in the yard.

Hooray for hubbies who can fix things!!
 
Remember…if women don’t find you handsome, they should at least find you handy…
 
… mind you, an important part of being handy is a bit like that oath doctors take, rule #1 being “First, do no harm”.

It has to be said that if H has a fault in the being handy department, it is a teensy leetle bit of a tendency to being unwilling to recognise it when he is out of his field of expertise … if you know what I mean. :eek: 😃

(So, estesbob, take heart - you have that part of being handy down pat.)
