Hank Hanaagraff, long time host of the popular Protestant Evangelical “Bible Answer Man” radio call-in show has revealed that he has converted to the Greek Orthodox faith.

He addressed this publicly on his radio show recently when he verified to a caller who asked about it that he has been received into the Greek Orthodox Church and had been attending there for the past two years, Here is a link to the broadcast where he addressed the question:

Wow - that’s pretty huge

I don’t agree with Dr White, naturally. But i saw that programme and thought he did a good job of explaining the fact that the Orthodox have a very different worldview to the majority of the religious West.

Wow! I used to listen to his show & he was such a jerk about some things. I stopped listening because yelling at the radio wasn’t helpful. :o

I’m happy for him - has his family converted with him? (I can’t watch youtubes or listen to podcasts.)

While converting to the Catholic Church would be the ideal, it’s still worth celebrating when a cradle protestant converts to Orthodoxy.

at least his wife did

I managed to find the info - 2 of his children converted with him & his wife. I wonder who the remaining children feel about their conversion? I know my parents weren’t too happy when I became Catholic.

Not too many details out yet. I’m sure it’s a very sensitive time for their family (and even his ministry at CRI) considering what a high profile and significant conversion this is. I’m sure they’ll share their story with everyone when the time is right for them.

Well…too bad he won’t be a guest on The Journey Home…😃

I wonder if there is similar program within the OC?

Years ago when I listened to The Bible Answer Man and I would test my apologetics knowledge especially when Catholic questions came up. I was frustrated because I thought he misrepresented Church teaching on certain things, justification for one example. But there was something…maybe I was reading too many conversion stories but I could picture him converting except that he might be out of a job if he did. So I’m not surprised, though I didn’t see the Greek Orthodox twist. I want to be able to say “welcome home!”

As a Catholic, I listened to his show for many years and read many of his books and I always felt the same thing, He had a lot of blind spots when it came to certain Catholic beliefs (and his misrepresentation of them showed he didn’t understand them), but I never felt he was anti-Catholic. I always thought he was a really smart and honest guy who would make a great Catholic if ever got past his misconceptions.

I think you’re right that fear of losing his livelihood might be a factor in his hesitancy to accept the fullness of the Faith. But he seems to have overcome that and taken the plunge. Already on his Facebook page and in a few online blogs his former fans are turning on him. He needs our continued prayers and support in this difficult journey he has undertaken.
