Yes of course except that magic is not condoned by our Church And is warned about in the Bible. So it’s a little bit more than just a subjective view point.

That’s why I have persisted with it. I don’t like semolina but I wouldn’t debate it for longer than say…,two weeks!

I think their strategy is whatever small, hard semi-round thing fits. There’s not much thought to the process.

It also usually involves eachother’s legs and not much more.

And that magic warned against is actually practicing it, not reading about it in a fantasy series. (Unless it’s a near occasion of sin for you.)

It’s a slippery slope mVitus, maybe not for you but we’re talking about the effect on naive youngsters. One thing does lead to another.

What would Our Lord have thought/said about such books I wonder.

@Xanthippe_Voorhees fwiw, I actually started reading one of the books. I bought a box full of books at 1€/piece in a foreign language I’m studying and decided to take up HP because of the polemics on CAF and because I figured it an easy read.

Well, so far every other page contains something I find objectionable in terms of the faith and especially if it’s read by children.

Personally I hate it because I find the writing quality appalling poor. It really lacks well-developed characters. Anyway: enough of that. No, it’s not bad. The only part that would stand out to me as potentially “dangerous” to morals is the fact that Rowling attempts to justify all of Harry’s actions, even when they shouldn’t be. She makes the heros always in the right, even though they can be jerks sometimes she writes like it ok for them to be mean “because they’re saving the world, but anyone else who does the same things to them is a cruel bully and deserves to be treated as such. “

Great. But I don’t. And the church has no public stance. If you read the Bible line by line you’d have many issues with “immorality” too.

But not witchcraft.

( I have to go now for sleep 💤 do I hear cheers? )
There’s some pretty illicit stuff I’d consider more than a tad worse than Harry Potter’s version of “magic”

At this point, this particular poster is outright engaging in libel…and attributing some pretty grave things to the author. If someone did that to me I would be burning with a cold righteous rage about now.

I’ve watched this video, and the friar makes a compelling argument, but it’s based on the notion that Harry Potter’s world is NOT our world, even though they have a London.

I agree with what he’s saying here, however, I think the nuances requiring a lot explaining.

There are a total of 23 videos in his “Harry Potter and the Catholic Faith” series. If the priest could also create a work book for all this, it might be helpful.

But regardless, I would not consider Harry Potter a good piece of Christian literature, but this does seem to be a good start as a way to catechize kids & adults who become obsessed with the world of Harry Potter, or obsessed with the occult.

I look forward to watching more of them.

The ultimate theme of Harry Potter is that self-sacrificial love defeats evil. Can’t get more Christian than that.

I agree, that theme does exist. I’m not sure if the theme of every single book/movie, but it does exist.

@phil19034 to start with we don’t know if the protagonist in the video is a friar.

The habit does not make the monk.

Yep, the narrator in the book is awful. (The narrator’s morality seems very misguided - and somewhat self-serving.)
