That’s not true. The Cruciatus curse is one of the three “unforgivable” curses. It is clearly portrayed in a negative light. Harry only attempted to use it when he was truly enraged after the death of his godfather… and yet he wasn’t able to use it fully as he has too much goodness in him. The curse requires true hatred. Dumbledore clearly doesn’t approve of their use throughout the series.
When did Harry express contrition for his attempted use of torture?

And he attempted to use it TWICE. The first time, he tried and failed (against Bellatrix Lestrange). Lestrange taunted him that he really had to mean it.

The Second time, he successfully used it against Amycus Carrow, for spitting in McGonagall’s face. Harry specifically noted that he learned from Lestranges taunting that he had to mean it, and that was why he was successful against Carrow.

Here is a short 4 minute video from Fr. Ripperger, FSSP. He says absolutely not. Rowlings went to witch school before writing the books. Says the actual spells in the books are real:

The spells are not real, they are pig Latin. Perhaps you could tell us the name of this “witch school” that JK Rowling allegedly went to?

I’m simply repeating what Father said on the short 4 minute video I posted. If Father is lying, then I apologize for spreading a lie.

A series about an elderly gay man who takes young children who are “special” off to his hidden castle, which is full of monsters and various cults, teaches them occult magic, engages in popularity contests, allows horrifically dangerous bullying/adventurism, encourages lying and cheating, wipes the memories of any legitimate authority who even questions the “hidden” world, and eventually manipulates large sections of the student population (all minors) into becoming soldiers in his war for supremacy over a genocidal maniac he “trained”.

Yeah! Sounds like a great thing to let your kids read!
Dude!!!

It actually seems like you read it. But with a bit of a hateful undertone.

Not sure where the gay people came in. I missed the gayness in HP.

It seems you have the books. Give them another read. You may be able to understand the books then.

I have been meaning to ask? Do you have any children and how old are they?

If he read it then he would know that the “elderly gay man” didn’t found the school for “special” children. He might have watched just enough on a Harry Potter weekend to piece together that bit.

Chunk Monk doesn’t believe victims of sexual assault, which I now understand as he is willing to makeup things about a series of books and movies. Since he makes stuff up, he thinks everyone else does, too. He’s a troll, and the worst kind, one that will act like they are the most orthodox, making orthodox Catholics look bad.

I am not Catholic, but having an entire Catholic Family in law, I have researhed CATHOLICISM. This poster I agree is not the Catholic I know.

I Respect Catholics, but sometimes one goes very far as fellow Catholics have pointed out.

I can just say ; luckily I know and I won’t judge all Catholics on this behaviour.

He doesn’t seem to be the type of man who says things on the fly. I would trust him over others who may have something to hide. I’ve also heard a teaching of his where he says an exorcist friend of his while performing an exorcism was told by the demon that he entered into the kid via Harry Potter. I don’t for one second doubt Father’s teachings. Seems to me he is a holy priest who is looking after God’s people as he is commanded to do. What on earth does he stand to gain by repeating lies or misinformation?

So what you’re claiming is that when I say, “wingardium leviosaAH,” to make something levitate, I’m not actually using the correct words?

That JK–she’s a sneaky one. She puts real spells in the books but doesn’t use the correct words for them. Of course, that’s how she keeps the magic to herself.

Erm, this is a thread about Harry Potter.
From England.
Who is fictional.
There is however, a politics sub forum here, and torture is a valid topic (or in morality or social justice forums)
Not being snarky

Throughout this thread I have heard either yes its ok to read and watch Harry Potter, or no it’s evil and condemned.

Which is the truth? Surely there can only be one

Fr. Ripperger says the author used incantations and spells in her book.

The truth is that the Church has not told us not to read it. Scattered people here and there have said not to read it but the vast, vast majority of Catholic authorities have not forbidden it.

I realize that, but another poster brought up the claim that Harry Potter promotes torture, and this was tied to Catholics who support pro-torture Republicans… I was responding to that tangent.

Harry Potter doesn’t promote torture.
He attempts it in a fit of rage and grief, but even then, he can’t go through with it–and gets taunted by the bad guy for it.
But since he’s only like 16, he hasn’t registered as a republican or a democrat yet…
Or is that Tory or Whig?
I forget…
Darn

Of course. I said as much in another post. It wasn’t I making the argument that it does…

JKR is an occultist masquerading as a Christian to lure in unsuspecting Christians. There was a conference of exorcist priests discussing trends in the occult and HP came up. More than a few mentioned a link between HP and demonic activity, with one priest talking about the actual possession of 3 children who read the books!

I found this out by listening to a group of priests on the youtube channel ‘sensus fidelium’.

They have good sense on a lot of spiritual matters and I’m inclined to believe them on this too.

The devil works with 99% of truth and 1% lie. That 1% is all it takes.

If we look at the HP series I’ll agree that there are many Christocentric themes, however, the use of magic by human beings (even if that is assumed to be natural in the HP universe) is extremely dangerous. Adding to that, many of the spells used in the series are actual spells used by witches in the real world! The names of many of the characters are the names of many cast out demons.

This stuff is really dangerous.

Credit to @omgriley for most what I wrote
