When did Harry express contrition for his attempted use of torture? That’s not true. The Cruciatus curse is one of the three “unforgivable” curses. It is clearly portrayed in a negative light. Harry only attempted to use it when he was truly enraged after the death of his godfather… and yet he wasn’t able to use it fully as he has too much goodness in him. The curse requires true hatred. Dumbledore clearly doesn’t approve of their use throughout the series.
And he attempted to use it TWICE. The first time, he tried and failed (against Bellatrix Lestrange). Lestrange taunted him that he really had to mean it.
The Second time, he successfully used it against Amycus Carrow, for spitting in McGonagall’s face. Harry specifically noted that he learned from Lestranges taunting that he had to mean it, and that was why he was successful against Carrow.
