But, I do wonder, what about those poor Catholics who really have no choice? Work Sundays or get fired and try to find another job?
They can get a Dispensation from their Confessor to miss Mass on Sundays, if it is impossible to get there due to their work schedule.
Getting up for the 8 AM mass Mondays through Saturdays will be a problem.
Unless it is a Holy Day of Obligation outside of Sunday, it’s not required to attend Daily Mass (although if a person can do so without compromising their family and personal responsibilities, it’s a source of grace to do so) - so it’ll be okay, most of the time. On Holy Days of Obligation, you can either get a Dispensation to miss it from your Confessor, or make a deal with a co-worker to cover your time while you’re away at Mass on those days. Obviously, you would then do something in return for your co-worker.

like harry I worked at USPS for several years and during that time got only a few days off each year, yes year, none of them were holidays much less holy days, I was a PT flexible sub, which means I could be called in at all hours to work til all hours, fortunately the GMF was downtown so sometimes with the downtown churches and cathedrals I could find Masses on holy days and Sunday at odd times, but not only did I miss holy days and holidays with my family during those years, but missed Sunday Mass a lot two. According to my testimony to our union committe that made complaints about their practices, I only had a 8 Sundays off a year.

Harry,

Congratulations. I am new to the faith, confirmed just a few short years ago. Funny thing, it was Saint Philomena that brought me into the Faith, into the Church.

I wear the Cord of St. Philomena around my waist on a daily basis, and recite the daily prayer to her. It would be nice to have her at my siide when i die…I will be needing all the help and intercessors I can round up.😃
