Something, after I had confessed kept popping into my head as the priest was correcting my sins. That something is, “Tell him you listened to rock-music.” I deliberately didn’t confess this because it’s not a sin, right? It’s neutral. Well now I feel I didn’t make a good confession, even though, I know this isn’t a sin, but, typically when I get this, ‘Ooooh, you forgot …,’ I tell the priest that as well. I didn’t do this this time. Either way, I asked for a sign if I should recieve the Eucharist and I think God told me twice not to recieve, so, even if I DID hold back on God’s mercy, I didn’t add sacrilidge to my sins…of which confessed may not be valid. At worst, I may have refused God’s Forgiveness and mocked Him, at best, I may have committed scrupulouscity and am worrying that I am not confessing enough (in general, not just deliberately NOT admitting something).

I’m going to pray and think about this and if it was a sin, hopefully I can get to confession on Wednesday, if not, well, hopefully I won’t die before I can make a good confession again.

So, the question stands, has anybody else held back anything in Confession or gotten this feeling? If by holding anything back, you’ve gotten a nagging feeling saying to admit to this, even though, you don’t know why and you didn’t? (i.e., not talking about holding back a sin, but, as soon as the priest starts talking, you remember something more…and do you usually say what you remember then?)

I have deliberately left things out in confession, which was gravely sinful in itself. Let it all out and let the Pastor sort it out. I didn’t realize this until I went to a more Traditional Priest who faithfully helped me make a good confession.

Now if it is just honest forgetting of minor actions, then I would possibly study up on scrupulocity. Listening to Rock and Roll seems pretty harmless unless you intentionally are seeking music to harm your relationship with Christ.

If you have some hidden motive that’s sinful then I guess that could explain the thought…but when in doubt, for your own peace of mind, maybe mention an issue. If you remember something after the priest begins to speak, just respectfully say, “Excuse me Father, but I’ve remembered…”

I think you could possibly be somewhat scrupulous if you are anxious about dying before the next Confession…over something which you did not even at the time believe to be a sin, which is hardly likely to be mortal sin or to condemn you to hell! It might be an idea to mention it to the priest if only to obtain help for scrupulosity. Please God you never actually do commit a serious sin!

Remember, that to commit a venial/mortal sin you must
knowingly
and willingly
consent to something which
you believe/know to be a venial/mortal sin.

Do you honestly believe either when you’re listening to the music?
Is it actually an occasion of sin to you?

You made a judgement at the time of Confession that though the though began bugging you, it wasn’t a sin.
Therefore it wasn’t.

Maybe ask your priest how you can overcome scrupulosity…certainly thinking things out locigally, rather than with guilty emotions, can help clarify things.

I do hope you find truth and peace. All God’s kindest blessings to your good heart!

Let me ask you all who have and have not yet answered this question this:

Today I went to the Unemployment Office (will probably post a bit on the Curmudgeons’ Thread about it), and did the telemated thing to re-open my account so that I could get benefits. TECHNICALLY, the last day I worked was 6/29. I say technically because my manager came in around midnight and stayed there for two hours (I only did 1.75 hours work of work).

The automated voice(s) said, “We show on our records that your last day of employment was June twenty - eight, Two thousand, eight? Is this correct?..” I pressed, “1,” (yes) because the next question was, "If you have worked since, June twenty - eight, Two thousand, eight, what are the wages you have earned?’

I don’t know if my former employer or Unemployment decided to put those two hours on the previous day (that Sunday, the 29th, could have been a new work week to Unemployment). If I had pressed, “no,” it would have been not worth the hassle to push more buttons to explain that TECHNICALLY, their records are wrong.

I pressed one knowing that that is not true, but, it’s not a GREAT lie in the scheme of things. I pressed two thinking that I can go to Confession.
  1. Was I presumptuous in this thinking?
  2. Would you, the reader, you, confess this? Would this even come up on your radar as something serious enough to confess? You know it was wrong, you did it anyway of your own free will. …Or would you count this as a venial sin of sorts? OR, would you just dismiss it altogether; it wouldn’t even register on your sin-o-meter?

If you think you should say it, say it.

Sin is in the intention or your perception of it at least as much as in the nature of the act itself.

Wouldn’t register on my sin-o-meter! Your intent was not to defraud anyone, just not to complicate your already complicated life. Besides, I hate speaking to a machine and don’t owe it the same level of truth as a person who you can interact with and ask for clarification. Obviously, I’m not a scrupulous person. I’d just let it go and put a dollar in the poor box.

ive held back thing’s in confession that affected my husbend and I. thing’s my husbend said were not to be confessed. thought that was a long time ago and i dont even remember what it was but i do know at the time it was big to me. Im a beliver that whatever my husbend say’s goes. ( it keep’s the peace) . he’s alot smarter and wiser than i and want’s the best for me. I have a good relationship with my priest. i’m lucky i can talk to him about anything now without any fear’s though I always work when confesstion is going. so i alway call ahead to get appontment. anyways I have held back but when i have the streangth to get over the fear. that’s the big prob is being able to say it without fear of what someone will think.

Listening to rock music is not a sin…

I haven’t knowingly left stuff out, but I I’ve sometimes said them really fast and moved on to another sin as quickly as I could…

I once agonized over having to confess something and ended up going to confession before a weekday noon Mass because it was causing me so much grief. I got through the whole thing and waited. And waitied. And when the priest absolved me, I realized he was hard-of-hearing and probably hadn’t heard what I’d confessed…

(And if listening to rock music and freemason composers is a sin, I’m probably in really big trouble with my athiest composers…)
