It not really about “techicalities” and the name use is not irrelevant.I don’t mean to be rude but the technicalities of the name aren’t really relevant. Everyone knows what is meant my Novus Ordo or Ordinary Form, whichever you choose to use.

Had the term entered in the past slipped into more mainstream use?
It unfortunately yes had become more common.
I note that the better term is “ordinary form” not only because “novus ordo” is not the term the Church uses…but also because a number of person use it in a *pejorative *way.
Thankfully with the terms being used by Pope Benedict XVI catching on…it is fading more from use.
