An earlier post got me thinking. I have never encountered a ghost in my life. Has anyone here had any experiences with spirits from beyond the grave? If so, give us the story. Good, Bad, or Otherwise.

I had encounter with supernatural incident where “something” unlock my front door to let me in. All I did was knock and it was around 10pm.

teddy1 - My answer to your OP, is YES, on a number of occasions, and indeed other members of my family have, and some close and trusted friends of mine. [As Shakespeare rather sagely put it in Hamlet - ‘there are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy’.]

There is a difference between “saw a ghost” and “had an encounter with deceased loved ones”.
I have had the latter several times without seeing anything.

As I have posted here before, one of my uncles saw his deceased father walk across the bedroom of the family home, a day or two after he had passed away.

I thought I saw a ghost hover over my hotel bed as I woke up but am convinced now it was a trick of the light and my brain creating the vision.

It really shook me up for about 10 minutes before I ‘reasoned it away’…

Some little kids can see them on the yard trees and can also see angels too.

With Chinese or American Indian burnt incense, you can see that world around.
Ghosts have no permission to intrude our life or be detained.

At higher levels of spiritual life, you can ask a ghost of deceased person at lower level spirit to present to you to answer a question.

Whenever I see few of them come to yard or sit on the roof waiting for my meditation, I pray Divine Mercy for their souls. I saw a few at apparition sites too. The sinner souls probably do not know or can not ask for mercy, so some like to watch us when we pray.

God bless.

I’m not closed to the possibility, but no, I’ve never experienced a ghost, nor do I believe they exist in the way culture generally understands them. If there are “ghosts,” I believe they are the souls of people in purgatory undergoing extreme purification, who have been allowed to reach out for prayer. Outside of that, I generally chalk up “ghostly” goings on to either angelic or demonic activity, depending.

I do believe I have had an experience of a deceased love one, but not as a ghost.

I had one terrible encounter with a demon -
I awoke in the dead of night - knowing evil was in the room -
I was laying there, facing my left hand side -
A demon - was on my right hand side - very near to me -
I took a slight glance - it had to be - seven feet tall - India ink black -
It was holding my bedroom mirror - (four feet by four feet)
I turned my head away in utter horror -
Heard a hideous laugh - of total contempt -
Then the nearing. Almost breathing on my neck -
I was obviously INSTANTLY petrified -
Couldn’t move a centimeter - frozen in fear -
Said a Our Father - silently - nothing happened - it didn’t go away !
THAT - was a another shock !
Then I began begging and pleading - God - silently -
I heard that terrible snide laugh - again -
Then the gradual decrease of the confusion in the room -
I reached blindly for the lamp, on the right hand side - turned on the light…

That was - thee closest - experience.
I’ve had others - but that was up there - as being the worst.

My sister saw what she believed were ghosts. A tall, young man with blond hair wearing farmer’s overalls was walking up her stairs. She might have seen other ones, too, I don’t know, but she heard a baby cry and there was no baby around.

My daughter saw what I would describe as a demon ghost. It was dressed in black with black hair and extremely pale skin. It just stood there in the bedroom. My daughter would not sleep in her room for many days afterward. She referred to it as a witch.

Don’t you mean the three stooges?

(I couldn’t resist that)

You can catch invisible spirits visit your place at night sometimes. You can see the graph charts jumpy on PC screen and how far depending on the direction of microphone. The spirit moves from door to door until standing right behind your back.

I had the blessed cross at all doors and windows, but the spirit can go pass.

I had a similar experience. When my mother died I stayed at her house for a week and I could ‘feel’ her presence. I didn’t go back until 6 months later and then I could not feel anything.

I would be very wary of asking spirits questions. Medium type practices are forbidden.

I can’t say I’ve had a personal experience in the way you probably mean it, but I work with a number of people who have. I’ve been in the same job in the same place for 38 years. It’s a hotel that was built in 1959, expanded in 1978 and again in 2002. I began hearing stories of strange occurrences about 25 years ago.

One day around the year 2006 there was a power outage in the afternoon due to a truck hitting an electrical pole at the end of the block. I’d been working at my computer at the time so could obviously not carry on. I decided to go over to the pub to wait things out since I was friends with the girls on duty there and knew they would likely appreciate a bit of extra security while in the semi-dark. Darkness seems to bring out the ghost stories, like sitting around a camp fire, and they each began to recount, for my benefit, things they found disturbing about working in that spot. The most common thing was hearing voices before opening to start the work day.
The voices almost always originated near the same spot and were most often heard when the employee was out of sight around a corner or in a back room. After a bit of investigation I was able to rule out sound from the street, as even traffic noises were barely discernible. Noise from above or below was also highly unlikely as the pub, when it was built with the idea of bands playing on occasion, is super insulated in both floor and ceiling. The voices, clearly speaking english but muffled enough that nothing could actually be understood, carried on and some girls refused to do close up at night by themselves. One of them had become so freaked out once that she had run screaming from the bar.

So I listened to all these stories that afternoon, adding them to the ones I had already heard over the years. One girl became very agitated just recounting what had happened to her. I calmed them down and said I would take care of it. What did I mean? they asked. I’ll just take care of it, I said, and then wondered what I was supposed to do and why I had felt I could even say that. A few days later I went over to the bar (I have a key since I’m often in there to pick up paperwork) well before opening, sat in the dark in the spot where they reported hearing the voices, and said a prayer out loud. Then I just spoke to the darkness something like; “Look, whoever you are, you’re disrupting and frightening the people who work here and you have to stop. Better move on, ok?” I waited about a month before again asking one of the girls about the voices. It was strange, she said, but no one had heard any since that talk we’d had when the power was out.

That was 12 years ago, staff has changed numerous times, and there have been no reports from the new folks of any strange goings on. I haven’t told this story to any but a very few close friends. I guess the CAF counts among them now. 🙂

Yes indeed.
‘All forms of divination are to be rejected: recourse to Satan or demons, conjuring up the dead or other practices falsely supposed to ‘unveil’ the future. Consulting horoscopes, astrology, palm reading, interpretation of omens and lots, the phenomena of clairvoyance, and recourse to mediums all conceal a desire for power over time, history, and, in the last analysis, other human beings, as well as a wish to conciliate hidden powers. They contradict the honor, respect, and loving fear that we owe to God alone.’ - CCC 2116

Every night at 1:15am, a spectral Chuck Wagon races through my living room being chased by my dog. OH! Wait! That’s a dog food commercial from the 1970’s. Come to think of it, my dog’s been dead 45 years. So, that’s especially scary. 😎

I once felt dizzy and thought I saw a scary-looking woman peering at me through the kitchen doorway as I got a glass of water. She then disappeared behind the doorway as I screamed. It’s most probable that my mind was just playing tricks on me, but I felt very scared anyway. When I went to the doorway to look, nobody was there. It was a dark room, so I turned on the light. Then I think I started praying like crazy in that moment, begging God to protect me.

With that being said, we as Catholics believe that souls go to Heaven, Hell, or temporarily in Purgatory after death. We don’t believe in wandering souls. So if we do encounter a ghost, it would be through God’s permission that they are appearing on Earth to us. Sort of like how God occasionally lets angels and saints (think Blessed Virgin Mary) appear to humans for a specific purpose by taking on human form and communicating to them. It’s not meant to be a common, everyday type of experience, so there’s no need to be paranoid that we are being haunted by ghosts our whole lives the way some people seem to think.
