I have seen his work, years ago.

I found it highly offensive low-brow material. Odd that religious bookstores and gift shops sell it.
I own 3 religiousw bookstores and have been asked by non catholics if I carry tracts and his name has come up, which is odd, since we are mostly a Catholic store, but it has been a few years since anyone has asked for his by name.

“Yes, they will be in the Fiction section.”

As Barney Fife says in the Andy Griffith show - He’s Nuts!
I was going to say for someone not sure about their faith stay away until you are sure about your faith. Your response indicates a level of spiritual maturity.

Jack Chick is kind of like John McArthur in his attitude toward the Catholic Church. Apparently he got some real bad teaching in that area … as McArthur did because of his Baptist / Bob Jones ( i think) upbringing … and feels compelled to do his best to protect/ warn people… But … From my point of view God uses Jack Chick in spite of his wrong headed attitude toward Catholicism. Just as God uses John McArthur … who has written some excellent stuff when he is not talking about Catholicism.
That’s like saying Hitler wrote some excellent stuff when he wasn’t talking about the Jews.

I had never heard of Jack Chick until a teenage lady handed me and a friend of mine, one of his tracts while we were eating at a restaurant in Ft. Stockton, Texas. It might have just been coincidental, but the tract given to us happened to be anti-catholic.

I was amazed at the tenacious way the young lady came up to my friend and I and handed us - by far - the most offensive garbage that I had ever seen - smiling ear to ear, all the while of course, like she was doing us a favor.

I had noticed that on the way out the door the young lady had an adult with her whom patted her on the back while they both walked out to the parking lot. Angry as I was, I ran out to speak to the adult and give him my opinion on the matter;), unfortunately, I had just missed them as their van - which was full of even more teenagers - as it pulled out of the parking lot. I did notice, or read, that the van had “Calvary Chapel” printed on the side of it. 🤷

He is an Anti-Catholic comic book writer. He makes a whole bunch of comics on how to get “saved” and we are on his unsaved list, and traces all the problems of the world to us. (Even the murder of JFK, what the?..🤷)
I read his stuff every now and then for a good laugh. His tracts make him look like a paranoid schizophrenic. I remember reading one of his tracts about how the Catholic Church has a giant supercomputer that harvests the names of every known or potential non-Catholic in the world so that they can keep track of them for whatever evil future plans they may have. I program on supercomputers as a graduate student and sometimes when people ask what kind of projects I do I tell them (jokingly) that I’m working on the giant Catholic supercomputer.

I’ve always been highly amused that his “tracts,” have references at the back which only point to other Jack Chick tracts. As a Librarian, I have always find arguments specious when authors can’t find any other references to back up their claims and then reference only themselves, as if that will make their argument stronger…NOT!!!

It goes way back beyond that. In the investigations of the English monasteries by Thomas Cromwell under Henry VIII it was claimed that such tunnels existed. Possibly in some cases they did–though I don’t trust Thomas Cromwell and his politically motivated commission, and it is quite possible that such tunnels might exist for thoroughly legitimate purposes. (I don’t recall anything about the skeletons of babies in the sixteenth century, though perhaps such stories were already being told.)

There certainly have been cases where priests sexually exploited nuns. There was a report coming out of Africa around 2001 that told of some stories that sounded a lot like Maria Monk–it was soon overshadowed by the abuse cases in the U.S., but it was quite disturbing in its own right.

However, most of these stories seem to emerge from Protestant paranoia.

In my town, there’s a convent about a mile from a building that used to be a Capuchin friary. The convent buildings have tunnels linking them, and when I was being shown around I was told that some decades ago there was a rumor in town that the tunnels went all the way to the friary. . . .

These stories are remarkably tenacious.

A Protestant friend of mine actually gave me one Jack Chick’s tracts on how Rome was the “whore of Babylon”. It actually gave us a very interesting topic of discussion and turned out quite well. 🙂

:mad:When I was a REALLY gullible person 2 years ago I actually took those things seriously. He’s a jerk, to say the least, by targeting kids.

Re: Alberto Rivera…Does anyone have a copy or link to the result of the CRI investigation of Alberto Rivera? I read here on CAF but lost the link or copy of it.

Much appreciated if someone can post. Thanks.

There was a pretty funny tract I read that parodied Jack Chick’s “Last Rites” tract attacking Catholicism. I wish I could find it. On the other hand, you don’t need a parody to laugh at Chick Tracts. Just read “My name…IN THE VATICAN!?” :rotfl:

But seriously, we should pray for him and for all the Catholic Haters. :signofcross:
