I’ve heard of some miraculous stories concerning rosaries turning into gold when it was prayed. Has anyone else heard of this, or even experienced this themselves? Is there a specific name for this phenomenon?

Thank you,
Eugen von Böhm-Bawerk

I have read about rosaries turning gold after making a pilgrimage to Lourdes and Medjugorie. (not sure of that spelling.)

I have heard such stories connected with the sites of apparitions of the Blessed Virgin. Don’t know much more about it, though.

I have heard of it and oddly enough this question and others you have raised lately are of intrest to me. I believe that there is something of the devil in the constant thoughts that wouldnt it be great if I saw a miracle or had some amazing mystical experience or another.
I think this is a 2 pronged attack. The first is challenging God to do a miracle as if we deserve it and the second is to make us think we are not worthy of a miracle leading us to think we are not worthy of both. Im certain there are even more traps than those inherent in searching for miracles.

I would caution all to remember " blessed are those who have not seen but yet believe " that not the direct quote but im sure you can look it up if you want the exact wording.

Remember if you do have a mystical experience you need to be very cautious as to the true nature.

I think we should look for Gods little miracles in our everyday life. His gentle hand and direction. The chance meeting, the appropriate reading, the inspiration when we respond to people with the comforting words and deeds etc.

I would suggest praying the rosary and collect the golden rosary when you arrive at the pearly gates lol

By the way please dont take my answer as an attack on your questioning its just a little prompt for you to think about why these questions are important to you.

I have found that well used rosaries that are not expensive will lose their “silver” coating exposing the brass that the links are really made of giving the appearance of “gold.” They don’t turn into real gold.

Of course. I have heard it happen at Medjudorje with the Blessed Mother. It didn’t happen to me, but I have heard stories. Yes, it is true and it is from God, not the devil. We shouldn’t put God in a box and say that He only works “this” way or “that” way. God, working through His mother, allows these miracles to happen to strengthen our faith and to show us that He is alive and working today.
PS- Along with rosaries turning to gold [and it is just the metal part I believe,] there are Marian statues that cry real tears or tears of blood.

Yes, it is a fairly common occurrence. I have a rosary where this happened. Nothing miraculous about it.

Yes, but I’m not speaking about the natural loss in colour. Clearly, I think someone will know when what they have experienced is miraculous, and when it is due to the basic laws of nature. For starters, when it is miraculous, it happens instantaneously regardless of the state of the rosary; when it is natural, it happens over a period of time, and the holder of the rosary is aware that a colour loss is occurring.

I’ve heard of rosaries turning to “gold”. Is this referring to just the metal parts or the entire rosary?

Skin oils, sweat, chemicals in the air & environment (maybe kicked up from the ground) could combine to alter the metal coating or surface.

I agree that we should not make anything of these phenomena, if in fact they do happen.

Keep your eyes on Jesus.

Pray; and don’t worry - Padre Pio.

I have heard of this happening in Medjugorje. Mine turned gold this year ( 42 year old rosary) when I prayed with a rosary prayer group for the first time. Most of the women there have been to or believe in Medjugorje and every alleged apparition. I am not getting too excited about why it changed color. I will let the Church decide about Medjugorje, because I cannot discern what happens there. Much controversy, that is for sure. So…for whatever reason, I will continue praying with my now gold rosary and trust the promises Mary gave long before the happenings in Medjugorje started.

My Mom had a friend that went to Medjugorje many years ago and she took my Mom’s medal necklace with her. When she returned my Mom put the necklace back on and it did turn after a few days and stayed that way until my Mom died. I have the medal necklace now and it has turned back to silver. I know the necklace was silver when my Mom first started to wear it and I saw it turn gold and then back to silver.

I have no idea and I don’t think the Vatican even recognizes Medjugorje as an apparition site. 🤷

The Vatican is now investigating. You can (and should) find out about why the bishops in Medjugorje and others do not think medjugorje is “worthy of belief” It was quite an eye opener for me  Much good has happened there, but I just am taking the “wait and see” stance after reading about the many controversies. You can google it and find out.

I have seen the gold rosaries. On one of parents trips to Medjugorje they brought about 100 rosaries with them. They were all purchased from the same place at the same time. Upon return, two of them had metallic links that were golden. I am sure that the rosaries were not checked for gold links before the pilgrimage. I doubt that the supplier slipped a couple of gold rosaries in with the batch of steel rosaries.

I do believe they turned gold, because mine did after praying with a group that had been to medjugorje. I’m just saying that such things can happen and it might not be from God. I was astounded myself when I found out that this was a possibility, and frightened. Like I said, I can’t discern this, but will let the Church make the decision. I believed for many many years until my Aunt went and came back with some very negative experiences; and she being very devout Catholic. I still believed, but had that in the back of my mind and then recently found out about the controversies, which are many.

this thread is not about Medjugorje, so we need to remain on topic or it will get closed.

I have a friend who’s rosary turned gold after being in the presence of Mary during an alleged apparition.

my moms rosary acutally turned gold after a mission trip, the medal in the middle was of Pope John Paul II…and it turned to Mary with the twelve stars over her head, and that was gold and the Crucifix was also gold=)
