Has anyone here read the book - Before Jerusalem Fell: Dating the Book of Revelation?

since I left college I tend to avoid books that have more footnotes than text on a page. seriously, why would you seek out books on scripture by non-Catholic authors when the Church has its own rich history of scriptural exegesis and interpretation, which one lifetime is not long enough to appreciate?

I understand your point. Can you recommend a similar catholic book, one that addresses the fall of Jerusalem and it’s correlation to the End Times?

The book tackles the errors of the Left Behind phenom from a Protestant perspective and may turn out to be a good book to pass on to a non-catholic.

By the way PuzzleAnnie, I stumbled across this book after hearing Scott Hahn reference “The Days of Vengeance: An Exposition of the Book of Revelation” by David Chilton. I could be wrong, but I don’t believe that David Chilton is a catholic author.

I have not read or seen this book, however, I did get hold of the commentary written by the Protestant theologian William Barclay on the Book of Revelation. He also takes this view about the Book of Revelation, that it was written prior to the Fall of Jerusalem, and not during the later period as we have been led to believe. I am tending towards this view, as well as the view that Nero is 666.

If the book is a response to the Left Behind Series, and there are Catholics who have been taken in by this stuff, then I think the book has merit, regardless of whether it is written by a Catholic or Protestant.

There are two more books that could be added to the bookshelf, the one written by Paul Thigpen “The Rapture Trap” and the book written by David Currie as a refutation of the false doctrine of the Rapture.

Find a book that will explain the SEVEN THUNDERS the rest ,take with a grain of salt.

From Sungenis’, The Apocalypse of St. John(Chapter 10):

In answer to the angel’s mighty shout to heaven, seven peals of thunder speak back to him. These thunders, as we noted in Ap 4:5 and 8:5, are from God who sits on the throne. In this case, God’s seven thunderous voices are confirming the task and territory marked out by the angel’s roar.
In Ap 10:4, John says that when he heard these thunderous voices he was about to write down what was being said but was told not to write it. First, this shows that John was writing the Apocalypse as it occurred and did not wait days, weeks or years. Second, this scene is put here for the express purpose of informing us that there is a great amount of communication and knowledge shared between God and the angels that we are simply not allowed to know.

From the RSV:

4:5 From the throne issue flashes of lightning, and voices and peals of thunder, and before the throne burn seven torches of fire, which are the seven spirits of God;

8:5 Then the angel took the censer and filled it with fire from the altar and threw it on the earth; and there were peals of thunder, voices, flashes of lightning, and an earthquake.

10:3 and called out with a loud voice, like a lion roaring; when he called out, the seven thunders sounded.
10:4 And when the seven thunders had sounded, I was about to write, but I heard a voice from heaven saying, “Seal up what the seven thunders have said, and do not write it down.”

This might sound a bit hard to fathom ,but Christ new of the false prophecy that was coming .The vomit that the dragon spued after the woman with child,in Rev.12 he hid a his message of rev. it self, in the structure of the book itself. the message is in the book disguised in the gematria. I will explain if you want to open the door that jhon did between Rev. 6 +7 note how apropeate .no.6 number of man .walt2000.

Revelations.is a book that if I had any thing to do over. I would leave Rev.alone.
