Hi MaxRosen,
I just wanted to add something about demography from an article I read in the Notre Dame magazine entitled “How Religion Impacts the U.S.”
The article says that both positive and negative influences that religion has on society are the subject of a new book, American Grace: How Religion Divides and Unites Us
by Notre Dame political scientist David Campbell and Robert Putnam of Harvard Univerity. (He also wrote a popular book called
Bowling Alone about the collapse ane revival of community in America).
What they are saying is something of the same thing Eric Kaufman spoke about in the YouTube video. The authors surveyed thousands of people across the nation on civic life and religious beliefs and behavior. They studied the same group of people the following year noting that 1/3 to 1/2 of U.S. marriages are interfaith, 1/3 of Americans have switched religious traditioons during their life, and even strong-minded evangelicals believe that people of other religions can go to heaven.
The book also identifies a shift in religion’s role on political identification. People used to vote denominationally, like the Catholic support for John Kennedy. Today, the more devout of different faiths tend to vote with each other and differently from those less religiously inclined. An example given was of John Kerry finding out this development.
Of course different societal issues bring together voters of different faiths, like abortion and gay marriage, but now the trend is changing so that the divergence is showing up in young people who tend to oppose abortion but not gay rights.
Anyhow, I think there will be more studies and more articles and books out there on the subject. Thanks for starting the conversation on this interesting topic.
Many Blessings,

I actually tend to agree with this statement, at least in regards to the young people I know. In conversations, it seems that science has convinced them that the fetus is a small, living child & a gay person is born that way. My teenaged daughter identifies herself as conservative

eek

is very pro life & just wants gay people to live their lives the same as everyone else. She sees it in the civil rights mode where the pro life is a black/white life/death thing with scientific proof we can see of a beating heart etc.
Sorry to get off topic!
