Has/Can Pope Francis address the FALSE teachings of Liberal/Progressive "Churches"?

I am protestant, but isn’t the rise and popularity of these DANGEROUS “Christian” churches important enough to speak on?
Is he allowed to speak both on the heresy from Protestant and Catholic churches or only Catholic churches? Shouldn’t he take this as a grave matter and speak on both anyway?
If not him then more pastors and christian organizations need to publicly speak out and denounce the heresy of these churches.

This madness is leading many people astray. I apologize for coming across as angry and “self righteous” but this is a serious issue and is a matter of life and death. I especially fear for other young people in the millennial generation. As most of us should know, there has been media reports on young people abandoning the church and an increasingly "non religious’ population. Older folks too, but so many young people are seeking to conform with the world and want to hear a radical hippie version of Christ who never spoke against immorality. They want folks to pat them on the back and rationalize the wrong things that they do. As a young conservative, this insanity is depressing.

Most “liberal” churches I can think of do teach that Christ is the way and do teach the trinity. I live close to a conservative Pentecostal church that denies the trinity. Modern Bible literalism is a concept that is mostly 200 years old and yes.there are passages that no Christian would practice (Deuteronomy 22 is full of them)

Too many people quickly assert anything they don’t agree with coming from a Church (especially things that even be considered remotely political) are considered “Liberal/Progressive” Churches, and there for espousing “FALSE teachings”.

Francis faces that same mindset himself. We can see it in his attitude about, and movement toward reform. Even Catholics with conservative political views will tell you what he said wasn’t what he meant, it was just spin put on by a liberal press.

Any Protestant can interpret for himself/herself and start a church without the permission or authority of anyone else. How can the Pope “police” all these disfragmenting? These churches run into tens of thousands, each having their own unique perspective what their religion is about. Protestants do not regard the Pope speaks for them in the first place. Therefore Protestants if they do not agree with these regressive churches, must speak out instead of respecting the choices of these regressive protestant brothers and sisters in silence. Popes did speak out on such issues such as abortion, same sex behaviour etc before but which protestant take their words seriously? However what the RC can do is to remain the pillar and bulwark of truth. We do respect your freewill to discern for yourself. The results show. Disunity must result. Other gospels will be taught. It is inevitable.

I understand your frustration and zeal. But there are things to be kept in mind.
Churches, mainline or otherwise, that abandon the Gospel tend to find their numbers dropping. The simple reason being, why should I feel the need to attend a church and worship God, if it’s all a bunch of myths and fairy tales? The real danger for a non-religious society, is that it creates a vacuum that will be filled by something.
Man is a religious animal. He always finds *something *to worship.

“Radical” as is promoting abortion as female empowerment, distorting women’s role in the family, and denying the differences between men and women.Promoting a bizarre gender-less society agenda that seeks to destroy masculinity and femininity.

Another example would be feminist/liberal Christians, portraying/re-labeling God as a goddess and calling him “mother” because they think scripture referring to God as “he” or the “father” “is sexist against women”.

Also, how does the bible treat women like property? I think you are taking scripture out of context and not understanding certain situations and stories from the time it was recorded. The bible does not condone the declaration of men being better than women. God views men and women to be both worthy of his love.

False teaching exists–the bible is clear on that. I listed examples of what some of the “churches” are promoting. These things are a serious matter.

Promoting whatever you want without regards to what God commands is wrong. And churches that promote false teaching and false doctrine are leading people astray

Of course he has but as with every Pope since the so called ‘spirit’ of Vatican II he has had to address these issues within the Catholic Church. After Vatican II liberals caused much damage within the Catholic Church (and still are) by misinterpreting, ignoring the documents of Vatican II (much like protestants do with Scripture) and placing more importance on their political ideology than on the teachings of Jesus. So when he does speak about these things they don’t get as much attention from liberal media or ignored all together.

The bible is clear that there is not “many truths”. There is only one truth.
The bible is also clear on false teachings and sin.

Doing whatever you want when it comes to social issues is far from what the bible instructs.True Christians do not cherry pick in order to be politically correct and popular.
You missed the point of my post. Im specifically referring to FALSE teachers and those who participate in immoral things and then rationalize it as okay.

Not sure why you bring up the constitution but it is understandable for certain things be legal in a secular country. That does not mean it is right for Christians to rationalize sin and participate in immoral lifestyles

Yes, He can speak to those issues specifically, as he thinks necessary and beneficial, and has done so in some cases. The CC has already addressed many of them in her teachings, papal encyclicals, etc, so the Catholic positions are no secret.

It’s up to us to try to bring those who have “itchy” ears back to the true teachings of Christ. We live in times that are more dangerous than any other age because we have Hollywood dictating what a family is, social media that spreads seriously crazy ideologies, and, as you stated churches moving toward teaching God’s word in light of today’s social mores.

Many of us sit back and wait for others to address these issues but WE have to be the light of Christ in the world.

I understand totally your frustration with this. I have nieces and nephews who are moving toward these teachings - how do I share with them? Right now, I love them and share when I can.

The mainline churches have a growing number of those who deny the trinity and Christ as “the way.” See Bishop John Shelby Spong.

I understand your frustration. I have watched the United Methodists, Episcopalians, and some Southern Baptist congregations go off the rails as to allowing what scripture strongly condems. It is a sad truth, but one that has been going on since the original churches St. Paul seeded. 1st and 2nd Timothy are clear on this. The heresies the early church fought are no different. There will always be those who put pride and self before God and Christ Jesus. All we can do is work out our own salvation, and assist others as our gifts allow. In this modern secular, me first world we now live in, it is difficult.

The Pope? What does the Pope have to do with Protestant churches?

**These churches will self-correct. Unlike the Catholic churches, Protestant churches can reinstall their ‘operating systems’ to remove corruption, viruses etc . **

They have been judged by their own congregations… because protestants DO NOT accept the authority of the clergy above scripture. ‘Sola Scriptura’ helps to prevent corruption.

If you want a concrete example - look at the Prebyterians in the USA. The hierarchy decided to allow gay marriage, and thousands of churches broke away.

If they don’t formally break ties, many congregants simply vote with their feet. Hence the declining numbers in mainline churches.

The Episcopalians are also suffering, as is the Anglican high church.

Spong is the retired Episcopal Bishop of Newark, who is among the most radically liberal “Christian” theologians in the world. Though not all Episcopalians are as fringe as he is, the denomination is slowly headed that way. These are his 12 points for reform:
