Has Russia been consecrated?

This has been bugging me. I know it’s a big controversy, so, has Russia been consecrated according to the instructions at Fatima or hasn’t it? If not, why not, do you think?

Pope John Paul II consecrated not just Russia, but the world to the Immaculate Heart of Mary as thanksgiving for her loving mother’s hand guiding the assassin’s bullet away from his heart. Sister Lucia herself said that the consecration had been achieved. I think she would know.
Furthermore, look at what happened in Russia. The Cold War ended and Communism collapsed! How can you deny that God was behind that?
To deny that Russia was properly consecrated not only paints our beloved late pontiff as ungrateful and incompetent but ignores the very obvious works of God in this world. I know there is a group who denies that John Paul did what the Blessed Mother asked, but their arguments are weak or untruthful and divergent from Sister Lucia herself. Pray for them.

Yes! It has been done!
see here:

“Sister Lucia personally confirmed that this solemn and universal act of consecration corresponded to what Our Lady wished (‘Yes it has been done just as Our Lady asked, on 25 March 1984’: Letter of 8 November 1989). Hence any further discussion or request is without basis” (Bertone, MF).

Nope… Russia HAS been consecrated… and like Sr Lucia declared: “…the consecration was accepted in Heaven…”

If the late JPII came and consecrated the US, I am sure that would have been accepted in heaven too.

However, the request at Fatima was for a singular, specific consecration of Russia (not the whole world, and especially Russia) by the Pope and the bishops of the world in union with him.

Hasn’t happened yet… and may not for a while considering the political upheaval it would cause. Although maybe the non-consecration is what is keeping Russia from even allowing the Pope to visit.

On the side… Benedict XVI has choosen the name last used by a pope during the time of Fatima. Perhaps…

and as for the “letter”… I believe it is the only letter the good sister “typed” and only someone’s translation of what she typed affirms the consecration. ALL other correspondance from the good sister, in her own handwriting, denies the consecration (as per Our Lady’s instructions) ever occured.

Good thing this is not necessary for our salvation, or we would be fighting to get into (or stay out of) heaven.

Time will tell… or perhaps our pontiff will clear this up as I think he will clear up ambiguities/abuses in the liturgy.

While it is true that John Paul II consecrated the World to the Immaculate Heart of Mary in 1984, other popes in the past also consecrated the World to Mary’s immaculate heart.
Mary did not ask for the consecration of the “world” to her immaculate heart. She asked specifically for the consecration of RUSSIA. This quite obviously has not been done.
I’ve read from many different sources that Sister Lucia, prior to 1989, repeatedly denied that the 1984 consecration of the world was sufficient.

It was only in 1989 that certain Vatican officials, such as Bertone, began claiming that Sister Lucia said the 1984 consecration of the world (which made NO mention of Russia, by the way) had been accepted.

Our Lady didn’t promise merely that Communism would fall once the consecration had been done, she said that Russia would BE CONVERTED. Now, in 1917 prior to the Revolution, Russia was ALREADY a Christian eastern orthodox country, so from the context it would seem obvious that what Our Lady predicted was that Russia would be Converted to the CATHOLIC Faith once the consecration had been done. Heck, Russia by and large hasn’t even returned to practicing the Eastern Orthodox faith, let alone the Catholic faith.

Although evidence points otherwise.

Perhaps we should accept what the Church has said for the time being and unite as Catholics.

I have a Russian friend who has told me of the amazing rebuilding of churches in Russia.

He says its moving fastly back to Orthodoxy.

Perhaps Russia has been consecrated and we are too pigheaded to accept it for lack of instant results.

Was it ever going to be an overnight thing?

In Christ.

Let us pray…

Great and Glorious Father,
you are the font of all blesssings,
you are the font of all truth,
you are the font of all mercy.
Hear the cry of your people …
We beg you, make this silly arguement go away and NEVER come back.
We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen

You know, in my Rosary handbook the opening prayer is something alone the lines of “pray for this and that, and for Russia, and for the request which I now ask.”

I don’t understand what the consecration of Russia means? Where they anti-Catholic or something?

Enlighten me please.

I hope you are right. It’s very disturbing to think that it may not have been done, or that it was only partially done. It seems like it was done “kinda sorta”. I honestly hope it’s enough. The prophecies of what would happen otherwise are scary.

When Mary came Guadalupe, millions were converted in a few years. When Portugal was consecrated (in the 1931) it changed its ways very quickly, and became the only European nation spared from WWII.

I regret not being able to accept that the consecration was done, but I cannot accept it based on the facts.

Keep in mind that it was atempted twice by Pius XII, once by Paul VI, and twice by JPII. Why is the fifth attempt the one that worked? Clearly the others thought they did it right, but did not. None of the five attempts followed the simple fomula set out by Mary at Fatima.

And it is possible that the consecration of 1984 was accepted in heaven, but not necassarily for the purpose of fulfilling the request to consecrate Russia. When Pius the XII unsuccessfully performed the consecration in 1942 (he consecrated the world), Sr. Lucia reported that heaven accepted it, and it pleased God (it is said He ended WWII), but not for the purposes of fulfilling the request to consecrate Russia. See the above link.

Wasn’t the consecration supposed to be by *all *the bishops ?
