Has the Church issued any sort of teachings/doctrines about transsexuality?

From my own observations of stories, as above, and documentaries regarding this issue, it always seems to revolve around sex… as opposed to a hard working single Mum with three kids, or holy nunv
Same kinda shows over here across the pond, they’re always shown putting on makeup, heels and skirts.

But then again, a documentary about “a hard working single Mum with three kids” isn’t very exciting, is it, lol?

One wonders if those documentaries just show the fringe, while the real (but boring) story is thousands of people who’ve just blended in, living ordinary lives away from cameras and publicity?

True, that is possible however the male to female that worked with my brother did the same, plenty of makeup, mini skirt and stilettoes. Johns Hopkins hospital stoped offering TS operations as they noted that it did not help or cure their patients.

The Johns Hopkins program was from the experimental era of transsexual therapy. Several US universities had similar programs in which a person would go through counseling, possibly medical treatment, and possibly surgery. And be studied by researchers the whole time.

However, as the therapy and treatment of transsexualism became better understood international standards of care were developed. These standards of care, first published in 1979, allowed for the therapy and treatment of transsexualism to be moved out of universities and to the private sphere. The Johns Hopkins program was a dinosaur which needed to be brought to an end.

Although some of the psychiatrists in the Johns Hopkins program felt that treatment was not beneficial to transsexuals, their opinion was much in the minority.

They’re all by the same person–a man who transitioned to female and back. Get the books and show them to your son.
Gender Identity disorder or transsexualism/transgenderism is easily cured in children. Matter of fact the Catholic Medical Association has a subsection under their brochure “Homosexuality and Hope” on childhood GID (Note however: sexuality and gender identity are very different). I’m not giving advice or anything btw.

GID in adults is very difficult to “cure.” Most mainstream therapists who don’t adhere to gender transition (hormones, sex changes) recommend a supportive system and counseling to cope with GID. It’s a lifetime struggle if one is not undergoing surgery.

An “ex-gay” is probably telling the truth if they’re married to a woman and have kids that they’ve been cured of SSA.

But “ex-transgender” is pretty much a rarity in the Psychological field. If someone claims they’ve been cured of GID I’d like to hear about them because the Psychological tends to be dubious of them.

Note: don’t take any of this as advice.

There are Hermaphrodites. 🤷
Hermaphrodite is a really old term that isn’t used anymore, especially with the medical community (they came up with a new version of this word I think in the 40’s or 50’s). The proper term is intersex. Many Intersex people find the term hermaphrodite offensive. Think of it as kind of the same as calling someone with down syndrome a mongoloid. It is just offensive to that group. I know you didn’t mean it that way, I just thought I would give you the heads up.

We’ve done all we can do. It is in the hands of God and the Blessed Mother now. He’s independent, makes great money as an engineer, and lives 800 miles away. He’s already changed his birth certificate (I didn’t even know that was possible), driver’s license and social security card. He’s already talking surgery and even his closest friends and girl friend (real girl, not trans) say he’s rushing things. With God though, all things are possible and that is my only hope, that he will slow down and realize what a mistake he is making.

Is he “out” at work? Do you think he’ll be able to keep his job?

So sorry for your pain, hopefully he won’t have an operation, he would be able to go back to a man if he doesn’t change that part more easily. I see it a good sign though he likes girls, many have an added SSA component to their confusion. See society is letting them think this is OK. I have a son with SSA and thinks that is OK to be a homosexual. Do you have any information from his childhood that would be helpful to others to maybe prevent some things that may have contributed to it if at all? I know more about the SSA, but only what I read about TG. Do you have any support? Their is an Encourage group from the Courage ministry on line and we do have a women with a daughter with the same problem and you might get support there. We support both sexual confusion and gender confusion problems. Also their is a therapists Dr. Fitz-gibbons that could be helpful to talk to for you or your son at some point if it is possible.

We are in confused times now and only by the grace of God can we overcome. Have masses said for you son, they are very powerful. More powerful than for the dead. I will keep you in my prayers.
God bless

Sex changes are evil maimings. It’s wrong for a Dr. to surgically mutilate a man to make him a fake woman or in Chastity Bono’s case viceversa just as it’s wrong for a Dr. to try to surgically make a man a dog by putting a fake tail or surgically changing his voice to barking because he thinks he is a dog instead of a man. Man is man, woman is woman, dog is dog & cat is cat. There are Blacks who think they’re White & for the same reason, it’s wrong for a Dr. to surgically change their skin color because they think they’re of another ethnicity. Transexuals are bad people & they’re even worse than the gays & lesbians.

Dear cloisterdmon, I shall pray for you and your son and hope that he does not decide to get surgery.

mgreen, yes he is out at work as of January 3rd and has kept his job. He told human resources many months ago about this and they worked with him. He wears polos and khaki’s, nothing flamboyant and no heavy makeup like the stereotype. Most trans people you wouldn’t even know they were trans. He, though, is not at that point and I think he looks in between. speaktruth, there was absolutely nothing in his childhood that would lead us to believe that he would end up this way–no feminine mannerisms, etc. That is why it totally floored us. He’s been “boy” all the way, even in his career choice of civil engineering. It was legos and boy stuff growing up. I never thought there’d be a time in my life where I’d say this, but It would have been easier had he simply told us he was gay (at this point, he doesn’t know what he is, but he is dating a girl, real girl not transgender girl.) I will check out the support group you mentioned.
As a point of humor, when I first mentioned this in confession, you could just hear it in the priest’s voice, like “Lord, why send me this? Can’t you just send me an ax murderer’s mom?” But he was very, very supportive and helpful. Thank you all for your prayers.

:mad:You could have been more compassionate. Have some respect for some of us hurting mothers, especially for this women on here. We still love our children unconditionally as God has commanded. We don’t love the behavior, even if we find it horrible, and don’t agree with it, what value did you add by making that comment? We are **all **sinners. Transsexuals are not bad people, they are someone’s child. Please keep your judgmental talk and un Christian behavior to yourself.
Catholics are suppose to be Charitable even to people they don’t like.
No one was made bad, we do bad things. I wonder if you had a child that had done something wrong and told them they were a bad child instead of saying you did some thing bad. We are all children of Christ and even though some people are messed up for whatever reason, we call their behavior bad, not the person. You just insulted Jesus. If you have no children then you wouldn’t understand, so please be more considerate. You could have made your point and left it at that without those comments. It is the doctors that are really doing evil.
God have mercy on us all!

This is such a puzzle for you. I did laugh about the confession. Even though it isn’t funny in reality, but we have to laugh or we cry. Thank God you can still have a sense of humor. My son had brain cancer at five and when I found out about my son with SSA, and wanted to act out because he thought we would accept it, it was worse than death, at least I knew if he died when he was young I knew his salvation wasn’t at risk, but this was such a trauma for us especially his father, all I could think of he was going to hell. But even as bad as it is, I can understand that your baby boy that you remember, now wants to be your daughter would be devastating and to me would be an even bigger cross. I know just like how you must feel that no one knows what pain it is for a parent until they have gone through it. It is true that God gives each of us only the things we can handle and guess he knew you were going to be strong enough for it, some of us may not have.

I didn’t have my faith in the church then and then had my conversion, so God does things for reasons that we don’t know at the time. I know now if it didn’t happen the way it did, I would not have come back to my faith. I also realized that my salvation was at risk as well and ran back to the church, and that I needed to focus on me and let God do the rest. I had to let go and let him drive the bus. I couldn’t help anyone if I didn’t take care of my faith. He does answer our prayers, we just need to trust and have patience.

We are all on a road to heaven in different ways and for different reasons. Faith, hope and perseverance. Don’t give up, it sounds like your son has doubts to me. Just keep telling him you love him, but you can not accept this life, because he is not only affecting what he does to himself, but to you as parents and to love him would not be accepting this because he would be risking his salvation. You did not raise a girl and he will never be one, no matter how many surgeries he could have.
I continue to pray for you and your family
God bless

Sometimes you can be more compassionate too. Where you get angry at lack of compassion is bizarre, to use different terms you want compassion for mothers of cripples, but demonstrate lack of compassion for the cripples themselves, how queer.
