Has the Eastern Churches suffered from the "spirit of Vatican II''?

Vatican II has been a great blessing for most of the Eastern catholic churches. We too have seen the removal of statues, alter rails, Latin style tabernacles, stations of the cross and MANY Latin devotions such as public recitation of the rosary, benediction and Stations of the cross. These things needed to go if we are to recapture an authentic Eastern tradition.

No thanks…I try to avoid the Ukrainians here in North America…I usually leave very agitated, so I tend to stay away.

I love them for what they are

I feel uncomfortable though in another parish where I am the only one who does not kneel. At least in my home parish, more than half do not kneel on Sundays.

The last Ukrainian parish I was at the alter boy came out from behind the icon screen during the anaphora, and knelt on the step and rang a Sanctus bell!!! Even the Latins don’t do that anymore.

I would think that Vatican Councils I and II only applied to Catholic Churches in the West.

There were eastern Catholic bishops at both Vatican I and II. (As you can guess, it was not with event.)

I would say Latin Catholics do as I have seen this done at numerous Ordinary Form Masses.

They ring the bells at the Mass done at the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception.

I intended to write that it was not without event. The bishops from eastern Catholic Churches, such as Ignatius Ziade, Maronite Archbishop of Beirut, and Isaac Ghattas, Coptic Catholic Bishop of Luxor-Thebes, gave spoke with inspiration.

Melkite Patriarch Maximos IV acknowledged the synodal nature, including Archbishop Elias Zoghby, Archbishop Neophytos Edelby, Archbishop Peter Medawar, and Archbishop Joseph Tawil.
