Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert invited Rev Ian Paisley of the Democratic Unionist Party of the North of Ireland to the State of the Union address.

Rev Paisley has been called the #1 Catholic bigot in Europe today by the Catholic Civil Liverties of Europe. Paisley may be the biggest Catholic bigot alive today.

In 1988 Paisley came face to face with Pope John Paul II and screamed at him, “Antichrist, I denounce you Antichrist, you and all your cults”. After the death of John XXIII in 1963 Paisley stated “This Romish man of sin is now in Hell”. After a rally in 1968 Paisley justified the burning of Catholic homes by claiming: Catholic homes caught fire because they were loaded with petrol bombs; Catholic churches were attacked and burned because they were arsenals and priests handed out sub-machine guns to parishioners;" he also said the massive discrimination in employment and allocation of public housing for Catholics existed because “they breed like rabbits and multiply like vermin”.

Paisley was an invited guest (an honor) by Rep Hastert to the festivities of the State of the Union.

I urge everyone to call Hastert’s Washington office and ask the question “is your invitation to the festivites of the state of the union to Paisley part of the White House’s faith based moral initiatives agenda.” When I asked Hastert’s office that question their reply was “no comment”. Bush and many republicans were elected by Catholics, we must realize who they are now partying with.

You mean anti-Catholic bigot?

He is that, and views the Pope as almost the devil incarnate. But of course with no substantiated evidence to back his claims

He should fit right in with the Democrats. Birds of a Feather . . .

It is part of the ongoing U.S. effort to promote a revival of the shared government of Northern Ireland by Unionists and Nationalists, said Walsh, who chairs the congressional Friends of Ireland caucus. Despite the independently verified disarming of the Irish Republican Army last year, Unionists have been reluctant to return to the bargaining table.

Walsh said Paisley was delighted to receive the invitation, but he didn’t know if the Unionist leader is robust enough to make the trip. It’s more likely he will send his top deputy, Peter Robinson, Walsh said.
I hope his deputy is a little more sane. Paisley, like our Rev. Fred Phelps, is practically the living cartoon of a bigot.

Thankyou for the post Coleman. I remember Paisley used to say
" I don’t wanna here any rattle in them buckets" when he took up his collections. He bought his title of rev. from America you know.
He also held up a host on television one night and said “This is what they call the body of Christ”
I wondered aloud one day why he hadn’t been done in, and was told he was one of IRA’s main recruiting tools. Man will have alot to answer for.
