I guess a clothing thread would fall under “family life”?
I’m not creating this thread with any particular theology behind it. This is not meant to become a veiling vs. non veiling thread. Rather, I have seen some old pictures with women and men wearing hats when they dress up and it just looks good. It just adds that extra little bit of class. You can tell they took some time with their clothing to make It look right.
It seems like fashions today have just gotten so sloppy. People seem to think they can go out in anything. Sometimes I feel like I am just seeing a little too much of a stranger. They mays be covered head to toe in big sweatpants and a hoodie and are physically covered, but it kind of feels like they should be sitting on the couch drinking a beer in that outfit rather than out at dinner or at church. They are covered, but the outfit is more what I would expect to see if I was a good friend or family member at their house. What happened to having clothing for different occasions, rather than trying to make your most comfortable clothes forced into any occasion? Hats are part of this. With the exception of the most casual baseball caps, you really just don’t see hats.
And they are useful! The right hat can do wonders for protecting you from sun, heat, cold, etc.
That being said, I would hate for hats to come back as some kind of “modesty thing” because people seem to take some of those fashions and run a little too far with them and try to turn plain old anybody fashion into too much of a religious thing. Rather, I would like to find ways to add some nice classic hats to my wardrobe just for the fact that they look classy. However, I also don’t want to look weird because no one really wears them now.
Thoughts?
