  • Study of worms found when adult cells abruptly begin their downhill slide
  • Researchers say change occurs when they reach reproductive maturity
  • Finding is significant because humans have the same genetic ‘switch’
  • Means scientists could eventually delay ageing and degenerative diseases
Scientists have discovered how to switch off the ageing process in worms - which could eventually lead to the mechanism being delayed in humans.

The study of worms showed adult cells abruptly begin their downhill slide when they reach reproductive maturity.

A genetic switch then allows ageing to begin by ‘turning off’ certain processes which protect cells within the body.

The finding is significant because humans have the same genetic switch - and means eventually it may be possible to delay ageing and certain degenerative diseases.

Genetic switches then start the ageing process by turning off cell stress responses that protect cells by keeping important proteins folded and functional.

The results, published in the journal Molecular Cell, claim to p(name removed by moderator)oint the start of ageing, disproving the theory that ageing is a slow series of random events.

If they are able to dramatically increase our life span, I wonder how long before the brain’s memory is full?

So far as the headline goes, I don’t see anything really new discovered.
Yes, it is well-known, that most multi-cellulars have a “switch”. So was prescribed by evolution. I.e., by God.

I don’t see the way, so far, how the genes might be “switched” with modern “homo sapiens”. Unless they breed a new kind of human beings, with different genes.

But this is “playing God” and will not make any good. 😊

Reminds me of The far Side cartoon, of a professor talking to a bunch of students, with a bunch of obscure equations on the blackboard, and a student raises his hand to ask:

Professor, can I go home now, my brain’s full.

Blessings,
Stephie

My brain has been kicking old stuff out to make room for new stuff for about 20 years now 😛

LOL!

That would be wonderful if the research pans out, and can be transferred up to humans.

I saw that Dr. Al Sears, and his anti-aging clinic is hosting a conferance in Oct. Many of the top anti aging experts are to attend. Here is one of his articles about the event ~

As for anti-aging and rejuvenating our bodies:

We can pick up our cross and follow Jesus, use all the helps He gives us, especially His Mother, repent if we fall, persevere to the end, die, and then rise to be with Him, body and soul for all eternity.

Just great! They’ve convinced everyone that it’s normal to have two separate careers in their lifetime. Now what, will it be closer to five!?

They don’t know what to do with the lifespan they’ve enabled people to have now. We’ll all be old fogeys; have to rename the whole planet Miami. 🙂

Combine this anti-aging discovery along with the on going studies into ‘beating death’ (which they claim they are getting close to), and we will all be living 500+ yrs and have the bodies of a mid 20 yr old the entire time…WOW, what could go wrong?!

If this isnt the modern day version of the Babel tower, I dont know what is!!

Another interesting scientific front is the quest to re-turn-on the genetic switch to allow for endogenous vitamin C production. Humans are believed to have had this ability once upon a time. It’s a totally fascinating idea, particularly when you allow the implications of this to fully sink in - it’s something I encourage others to research for themselves.

This alone might allow for disease-free, biblical-length life-spans.

Honestly, I don’t think that even if a way to live “forever” was discovered, it would have any effect on those of us who make under several million dollars a year.

Even that’s probably an understatement - I expect it would be kept almost entirely secret. Who knows.🤷

I also think, though, that there are ways we can dramatically extend our lifespans right now, but they depend upon our intelligence and initiative.

A good idea would be for people to study the lives of Jeanne Calment and Mariam Amash, and go from there.

The English translation of Calment’s biography is instructive and, while the information is purely anecdotal, it’s also inspiring.
