Now that is rockin’ out a head covering! I love it!
Head coverings are up to each individual.
Mantillas can be purchased through various catalogues including EWTN.

If you google chapel veils you will find many places are selling them online and some are not so expensive. Another place to try, if there are any Catholic books stores in your area. I have one near me and because more women are wearing them they have started stocking them for both girls and women.
It is a choice and up to each individual. I just pray more women will choose to cover.
Maybe I am noticing this because I am a revert to the Catholic faith and when you haven;t seen something for a while and then come back and look at it you notice the changes more than when you are there all the time, but I remember when nun’s habits changed and alot of them through away the habit for modern clothing and then it was the rarity to find a nun in a habit. In a similar line of thought, why have many modern “Nuns” thrown away their habits and opted for more worldly manners of dress?.
Isn’t it wonderful? :clapping::clapping:I think the times they are a changing.

It seems to me, though, that I am seeing more of the younger women that are choosing to go into the religious life choosing the habits.
Two things:
One parish I attend occasionally has had one nun for many years. When I left the church she was the only one. She wore modern street clothes. If you didn’t know her you wouldn’t know she was a nun. She is still there and still wears modern street clothing but a convent was built down the street from the parish and now the church has more nuns and they all wear the long habits. It’s very beautiful.
We also had a Catholic women’s conference in our area not too long ago. It attracted alot of nuns from near and far and it was really neat to see all these habits. It was neat too because the conference was held in a public building and all over the place were Catholic nuns walking around. I don’t remember seeing so many sister’s in habits for along time, well since grade school.
I think the times they are a changing.
Because it sounds patronising and demeaning. Didn’t you realise that? How strange. Why not?![]()
Er…no!Because it sounds patronising and demeaning. Didn’t you realise that? How strange.
This post stands. We can not judge what is in the hearts of others. This is not charitable.

Wearing a head covering (Mantilla) is an act of humility and respect.
Those who think someone is merely “showing off” are the ones who truly have concerns about current practices not being holy or respectful enough.
1 Corinthians 11:2-16
Modest dress slacks or a pant suit is very appropriate clothing for Mass.
From Cardinal Raymond Burke:
“Thank you for your letter …The wearing of a chapel veil for women is not required when women assist at the Holy Mass according to Ordinary Form of the Roman Rite.
It is, however, the expectation that women who assist at the Mass according to the Extraordinary Form cover their heads, as was the practice at the time that the 1962 Missale Romanum was in force.
It is not, however a sin to participate in the Holy Mass according to the Extraordinary Form without a veil.”
Clearly wearing a Mantilla (head covering) is an approved option at both Forms of the Mass.
lil_flower_luv;7803564. A woman who wears a head covering can be as holy or as unholy as the woman who doesn’t wear the head covering and/or wears pants. An order of nuns who do not wear a habit can do just as much work for the kingdom as an order of nuns who wear a habit. Modesty and humility must first be found in the heart and then they will be apparent in what we wear and how we conduct ourselves. (We’ve all heard a thousand times how) God looks into the heart. It is man who sees outward appearances. I know who I want to be more like. [/QUOTE said:You are so very right. Once we get our hearts right with God it begins to become apparent in all we do. Not just the clothes we wear but how we act, think, speak and just live. It doesn’t do any good to follow the rituals just to be following the rituals if we don’t have our hearts right but a good sign of having our hearts right is our obedience to God and that shows up in our actions.
We can only be responsible for our own actions and what an inspiration we can be to others. When I see sisters in their habits or in action it reminds me of eternal things. I am reminded of God and Jesus and it inspires me to try to live a little better than what I do, to get closer to God. Kind of like iron sharpening iron. It doesn’t mean a sister who doesn’t wear a habit isn’t living for God, but it is the same way when I see anyone trying to live for God. I am encouraged to do the same and one of the things, because I am a woman, that encourages me is when I see women dressing modestly in obedience to God. I am reminded that God is no respecter of persons and what he does for one or calls one to do he can do for another and I am reminded I can live for him also.
We’re not meant to keep our relationship to Jesus to ourselves, tucked away in our hearts but be lights on a hill. Our culture so desperately needs women shining their modest little lights for God.
If nothing else, they were good conversation pieces.I remember wearing small chapel veils and we never had competition to see whose was the fanciest. That must have been something local in your area.
Maybe I’m wrong…but your post seem like they are judgemental to those of us who do not feel called to wear a head covering…I think some of you are going too far in making fun of other Catholics and what is important to them. Time for confession.

Many women who attend the Latin Mass wear head coverings out of Respect for Jesus.
Can we ever give Him too much respect ?
Many women who attend the Novus Ordo Mass on EWTN wear head coverings.
About 50% of the women in my Parish wear head coverings (mantillas) at Mass.
Why do you think it is so important to insult the traditions of others ? No don’t answer, I don’t really care. Talk to God about your issues.
I apologize if my post made too much light of the subject. I was merely trying to point out one of the advantages of old customs, even if more secularly motivated. People generally don’t discuss jean brands in the church vestibule, for example, but they might discuss dresses and ties. Just saying.I think some of you are going too far in making fun of other Catholics and what is important to them. Time for confession.
