I have a couple people in my life (mostly past life) who fit this description… and if it weren’t for Jesus…

I am SO thankful i found Him… No, that He found (and rescued) ME. If not for that, I wouldn’t be doing too well… :hypno: :ouch: For many years, i was NOT doing well… got lost in all kinds of false beliefs about God (if only subconsciously… but that’s where it counts…). One relationship was from childhood, so hard to overcome such long-term effects…

I just wanted to hear some testimonies about how others have dealt with this problem…

One of my co-workers. My demise is one of her major objectives in life.

I have a “co-worker” that is very intent upon ruining my reputation. I’ve heard a report that he frequently makes fun of me behind my back to other employees. His mission is apparently to destroy me any way he can. From the first moment of my exposure to this jerk, he’s been rude and exclusionary. I’ve never once had a conversation with him because he won’t speak to me. I’m very angry about this because I’ve done NOTHING to warrent his hatred. I’m being harrassed for no good damn reason and it pisses me off.

Not exactly, but there is someone who seems to want the worst for me. She was my friend, and is now my coworker, and is soon to be neither - I’m leaving my job this week! At first her complaining and putting people down was funny - in high school. Then it got to be trying, but I thought it would be kind of me to be supportive and help her through an obviously bad time in her life. Then I became the object of her complaints, but we were working together so I turned the other cheek.

She seems intent on thinking the worst of me. I am dating a divorced (and annulled) man - she tells people at work that he’s still married! After my first date with him, she accused me of sleeping with him and breaking up his marriage. She hadn’t even met him! I no longer speak to her about anything personal.

She launches into long tirades and rants about how my university doesn’t provide a “real” education because class sizes are too small. 🤷 I’m wasting my money on a master’s degree.

She rants about the Catholic Church being evil - I have never mentioned going to Church in front of her, but she can guess that my boyfriend is Catholic by his race. She is angry that the Church doesn’t support divorce, abortion, birth control, or gay marriage. She sneers at people who embrace religion of any kind.

She insists that pregnancy is a terrible thing, even within marriage. She has declared that if her husband got her pregnant, she would get an abortion. If that wasn’t possible, she would kill herself. (I wonder how her husband feels about that?) She loudly insults me for wanting children, and a large family at that. Since I’m planning to become a stepmother, she also assures me that my future stepchildren will hate me.

I am leaving my job this week. I was supposed to leave next month, but my new boss asked me to start early, and my old boss gave me permission. 👍 THANK THE LORD! I am so ready to leave!

And I know how to get her to stop contacting me altogether. All I need to do is update my Facebook profile to read “Catholic” and she will never call or e-mail me again.

Have you ever felt someone in your life was trying to “murder” you emotionally/psychologically?
Yep!..and almost succeeded. I call my way of life (and this house) “Bethany” : Martha and Mary - the active and the contemplative…and Lazarus - the raised from death. All close friends of Jesus and from Gospel accounts it seems that Jesus dropped in on His friends in Bethany quite regularly when travelling to or from Jerusalem from His home in Capernaum…quite a walk incidentally!!! “Bethany” incidentally amongst a few meanings means “house of poverty”, “house of invalids”. Off the point as usual:o

Good question indeedy to raise, Distracted:) …it comes under “Thou shalt not kill” and our modern intelligence insights that there is such a thing as emotional/psychological ‘murder’ or attempt to do so…and many ‘weapons’ can be a ‘murder weapon(s)’ Jolly good point you have raised!!!👍

Blessings and regards…Barb:)

Jesus warned that attacking someone with words is the same as murder. and yes I have been the victim. In this case it was at work and I went through channels–formal written complaints to superiors, EEOC and the union. It was necessary to protect others in my situation facing the same organized harrassment that edged into actual violence. We won, managment responded wonderfully, as did the union, and the actions were not tolerated and ended. Circumstances for my class of worker improved over the entire industry. The underlying attitudes remained among some of the employers who were not fired over this, but gradually softened over time.

I hear you. That’s exactly what *my *character assassin is all about. She’s very domineering, nosey, and devious. She’s formed a click of like-minded cohorts around her, and she dominates my weak boss, who can’t stand up to her and has surrendered most of his functional authority to her. It’s a major cause of work-related stress in my life. She attacks me through the authority of my weak boss, who is really her puppet. I fight back through the authority of an administrator, higher in the hierarchy than my boss, but one level below my boss’s chief ally in Administration. It’s complicated, but boils down to the childish jealousy that drives my coworker to constantly engineer my downfall. Personally, I have no interest in her and would like to get on with life, as if she didn’t exist.

Well done. I scored a victory over my adversary last year by doing something similar, although much less formal. Unfortunately, it only made the enemy more determined than ever to take me down, by any means necessary. I expect next year to be a much more intense battle in that regard. 😦

Excellent question! I think all of us at one point or another have had contact with this type of murder. My own husband used to do things that he knew would hurt me and sit back and wait for me to find out about it. It sowed distrust, suspicion, paranoia and fear into our marriage. This behavior was slowly strangling me. I had visions of our marriage as a dead bloated fish rotting in the sun.

At that time I was not Catholic and he was militant anti-religion of any kind (though he was a cradle Catholic). I took his lead years earlier and subscibed to moral relativism. God existed but on my terms alone.

Only by a miracle of God did we get past all of this. We saved our marriage, not through counseling or any other outside earthly reason. It was all interior. I think this is the seed sown that allowed us to be open to the Truth of the Catholic Church four years after our marriage was saved.

Our marriage today is so loving and open and free of the panorama of negative emotions that overwhelmed us years ago. I give thanks to our beloved Lord Jesus for I know it was Him that inserted his Love into our marriage and saved it.:extrahappy:

Our marriage is not perfect by any stretch of the imagination, but we deal with our problems in an open and prayerful manner. Together we have come home to the Catholic Church. Thanks be to God!:signofcross:

Hi “distracted” 👋 You know, it really took a lot of courage to ask this question. This is one of those questions that makes people THINK. 😉 Thank you for posting it.

I’m so happy to hear that you’ve been able to take refuge in the Heart of Jesus. That is where we truly find the strength to forgive these kinds of hurts.

I, too… have a couple people like this in my life (also from childhood); People, that I love very much. But who have caused a great deal of pain and trauma, especially over the last 10 years.

It took me awhile, but I think (like you) I’ve learned to take refuge in Jesus… and His love for me, AND those who have caused me pain. I pray for them all, daily. And I hope that I am in their prayers, as well. God bless. 🙂

i can understand your anger, but hopefully, you don’t show it… cause he may be trying to make you angry. i don’t understand people who try to make others angry… but i have had my share of them… ’

and another i can SO relate to is how the co-worker hates you for no apparent reason…
Does he know you are (if you are?) Catholic? I know a lot of people just don’t like Catholics…

What religion is he?
How long have you had to deal with this?

wow… really weird story…

I just don’t understand this kind of person… & i have had plenty of them in my life… I don’t know what kind of religion she supposedly adheres to… but, well, Jesus said you will know them by their fruits…

When someone attacks the Catholic Church… that is a sure sign - to me - that something is very wrong… (their fruits are “fermenting” on the vine 😃 )… No - that’s not it because i heard fermented fruit is good for you… Well, anyway, you get the point…

Did you pray hard to get the new job?? Or did it just land in your lap?? Either wya, i feel it was great gift from God… the Bible says not to be unequally yoked with un-believers… & i think this applies to both work and home… (although sometimes one can’t just switch jobs 😦 )…
God bless

The thanks go to God, who gave me a “murderer of emotions” to deal with fairly early in the game… My cross in life…

By the way, i tend to think that all crosses begin at the beginning of one’s life… for one thing, no parent is perfect… so we all have that kind of cross… imperfect parents… siblings…

If there is anyone out there that this does NOT apply to, please respond… nice to hear stories of good (adequate) parents… Mine were OK but… well… there was this “fly in the ointment” type of thing… No time to talk about it right now…

God bless… 🙂

Good to hear of a success story in this kind of situation - sometimes complaining seems like… a path not many want to take, for various reasons… but i feel it is usually the best way to go… Myself, i would be afraid the person would know where i park and all that, and something might “happen”… been there too…

I Personally, I have no interest in her and would like to get on with life, as if she didn’t exist.
It sounds like maybe she is or was (?) interested in yoU?? or am i reading too much into this…

Those people who “want” you can be the worst ones… been there too…

I’ve been a lot of weird places… :banghead: :doh2: :ouch:

if you don’t know this already, the best way to win a battle over someone is to pray the rosary over him/her… and/or give the person to st. Jude… patron of hopeless cases… He seems to help me out a lot… 🙂

Wow… your story almost brought tears to my eyes… I always thought those kinds of sick marriages were doomed to failure every time… would never or very rarely work out… because sickos are always sickos… (I am so cynical, i know… )… i also always believed that people only overcame this kind of thing by finding Jesus in a big way… sounds like you started fixing things before you found HIm (??)…
God bless… 🙂

i probably don’t take refuge enough because this one person still causes me much pain when i think of __ (the person, who will remain totally anonymous. I will call the person S)… S causes a lot of pain by manipulating others in the family to believe S is the wronged one… in our situation… very sick. I think S is kinda psycho but family members would have a cow if they heard me say that… They just don’t know the way OUR relationship has been… (assuimg you can call it that at all…)…

i am wondering if you have decided, like i have, that it is best to stay completely away from those people?? I didn’t always feel that way… or feel that way 100% - but the bible says not to be unequally yoked with unbelivers… (and even though S goes to Church every Sun… i don’t consider S to be a believer, really… doesn’t practice the faith, in my opinion…)…
