Have you ever gone to mass and not gone to Communion because you might have a mortal sin?

Not often. I usually get to confession if it’s going to come to that.

It has happened, though. I have also refrained from Communion because I was not in the right frame of mind to receive.

I won’t receive Holy Communion if I’m in need of confession. Which is rare because a local Parish hears confessions 6 days a week.

There are also times that I don’t receive Holy Communion even if I’m in a state of grace. I’ll do a spiritual communion instead.

I have a few times. It’s one of the strongest temptations I’ve ever felt in my life to go up and receive in that state. It’s also one of the saddest times, knowing I’m that close physically to my Lord but being unable to receive Him.

When I know that i have sinned mortally then I dont go.
But if I have doubts about the sin, then it is pretty tough

I often go to mass and not gone up for communion because of a mortal sin. Probably just as many times as I do go and receive communion.

Yes, because just like earthly food does not profit a dead body, neither does spiritual food, the Precious Lamb, unto life everlasting. In fact, my namesake, St. Paul, says that whoever eats this bread and drinks this cup without discerning the body and blood of the Lord eats and drinks unto condemnation.

Of course I have refrained in the past. From actually being in mortal sin to just being unsure if I am in mortal sin or not. However, I have suffered from Scrupulosity and at times still do and all the advice of have gotten from priests on the matter have said I should receive when in doubt so that is what I do now. I will only refrain if I am sure I committed a mortal sin.

Yes, been there and done that. And remember, missing Sunday Mass or Holy Day Mass will add to your list of things you need to confess…

So, go to Mass and don’t receive if you aren’t in a state of grace or add sin upon sin.
