Have you ever left mass early?

On purpose? Sure. I’ve walked out of homilies before. I’ve also left with a puking baby. And a host of other childcare needs.

Yes. A funeral mass was coinciding with Sunday mass. Very aged priest, who had a habit of rambling and mumbling, was giving the eulogy. He lost where he was and while looking to find where he was, i saw he had 2 A4 pages written (front and back) and he was still on the first, having spoken for what felt like an age. That was the end of my participation.

I have only left early under special circumstances where my presence was required elsewhere.

Yes. Why do you ask?
Yes.

And I second @DIERM’s question: Why do you ask?

This is the second thread of yours that I’ve seen wherein you ask a question and don’t offer an explanation for your question, nor provide an answer of your own.

Are you just curious? Doing research? Just trying to post something?

I heard from an Episcopal priest (so no idea if this is a term used in the Catholic Church) that when someone leaves immediately after receiving communion it is known as a Judas Communion.

Hopefully you just misheard that from a priest and they don’t actively Call it that.

I believe it was just meant as an informal term, not any kind of indication that the sacrament was invalid if people didn’t stay after receiving it.

two weeks ago … Mass had not started yet and started not feeling well at all… Went home, went to bed, slept it off… But was back at mass the following week

I’ve heard people say that. And I think people leaving early is a problem. But no, it isn’t a term one would use. Nor does it reflect well on the person who uses it.

Yep. TBH since having kids…I can only think of a few where I haven’t left early.

I always find it interesting seeing people leave early on Christmas Eve.

When my parents and I were attending Mass, they left early. I hate leaving early and I don’t think someone should unless they have young children or are sick.

I did about a month ago, left when Communion been given out, just felt like crap, but wasn’t sick (just was tired, hungry, etc, but not excuse to leave). Confessed it to Priest and he said its good that I did.

Agree. I heard an apologist refer to it as the Judas Shuffle. I felt like he revealed a hidden mean streak.

Unlike the other Apostles, Judas left the Last Supper early right after He received the Body of Christ; that’s why leaving right after Communion is compared with what he did.

I can see why someone might think comparing the two is a bit much, given what Judas was leaving early to do versus what people who leave right after Communion might be going off to do (perhaps with good cause, depending on the person and the circumstances).
