Anyone ever see or listen to this play? I heard that NBC was doing it so I watched the film for the first time last night and it was my first time ever hearing the music. Anyone know about it?

Wow, talk about a blast from the past!
Yes seen, it, had the album.
Had not thought of it in YEARS

The film I saw was from 1973, so it is pretty old indeed! I wonder what it will look like in modern day now that NBC is doing a version of it this Easter.

That was before the earth cooled!!!

NBC has a dismal track record for these “live” lip sync musicals. I will not even try this one.

I liked it, for what it was. It was goofy in a few areas, but I like the music.

I liked it! A great musical with some great songs. There is a version where Alice Cooper sings “King Herods Song.” fantastic!

I’ve seen the 70s film many times plus various stage versions and I’ve always found the musical thought provoking. I appreciate many may be uncomfortable with some content but on the whole I think it boosted my faith when I was younger.
The song Gethsemane has real impact and I like Hosanna too.
Hopefully the remake won’t be a disaster like at least one recent effort involving another 70s musical and movie which sprang to mind, of which the least said the better for many reasons…!

I was born '69 so am I ‘pretty old’?🤣
Just kidding. It is a bit dated - ‘Spot the Hippies’ - but it’s a classic!

Yes, everyone in the film looked like complete hippies. Still good though!

Great music. Bad theology.

I can appreciate it as good music. But it won’t be my go-to as a story of the life of Jesus.

Yes. Back in the early seventies, at the time of its release, our parish would play some select songs from the soundtrack at mass.

I think one song is in 7/4 time and one in 5/4 time. Ah, the 70’s.

Norman Jewison is one of my top movie directors and this is one of his pictures that I like best, along with In the Heat of the Night and The Russians Are Coming. Not only that, but I also find it one of the most inspiring Gospel-based movies that ever came out of Hollywood. I never saw the original stage version, and I’ve never seen a remake of any kind. I find it very hard to believe that any remake could possibly be an improvement.

It was just on here, as a musical, a great show.

I really liked this song. The Roman soldiers look like they just walked out of a 70’s night club though. 😁

I wonder how those folks keep jumping up and down the way they do. That looks tiring.
