You said that you understood people leaving a valid Catholic Mass for a Luthern service. That is like saying you understood people commmitting any other sin—would you understand adultery? stealing?
Who ever said it was valid? You weren’t there.

Of COURSE I understand adultery and stealing. Don’t you?
It’s human nature to be self-centered, we fight that in our walk with Christ.
Christ understood that humans sin.
It is understandable, not excuseable.

Don’t you sin?

Do you even know what is required for a valid Mass? Why do you always evade the issue.

You claim to be Deep Catholic, yet understand someone leaving a Valid Catholic Mass for a protestant service.

This is my main point of contention (ridiculing a proper prayer posture is secondary).
Did you even attempt to do anything about the “abuses” you encountered?
RS
6. Complaints Regarding Abuses in Liturgical Matters
183. In an altogether particular manner, let everyone do all that is in their power to ensure that the Most Holy Sacrament of the Eucharist will be protected from any and every irreverence or distortion and that all abuses be thoroughly corrected. This is a most serious duty incumbent upon each and every one, and all are bound to carry it out without any favoritism.
184. Any Catholic, whether Priest or Deacon or lay member of Christ’s faithful, has the right to lodge a complaint regarding a liturgical abuse to the diocesan Bishop or the competent Ordinary equivalent to him in law, or to the Apostolic See on account of the primacy of the Roman Pontiff.290 It is fitting, however, insofar as possible, that the report or complaint be submitted first to the diocesan Bishop. This is naturally to be done in truth and charity.
Walk out of Mass? That is an ordained Priest–even if his actions are in error, you are not to disrespect his office. I have never encountered this mind set. I do understand why you have difficulties.

And the complaints against this mindset are humerous??? What a disgrace.

Not a mass, ever, but I almost stood up and left when a guest priest started preaching “break up with her, find another girl and yet another”. If that’s how we’re going to teach people commitment and fidelity, then we may as well sign up with Planned Parenthood.

You’ve never asked.

You are right I do not know what went on, but I do know it is wrong (and certainly not understandable) to attend a non-Catholic service rather than a Catholic Mass.
True. I am sure most of us would drive hundreds, even thousands, of miles to attend a valid Catholic Mass rather than a Lutheran service. But…

As some may be aware in light of other threads, Michigan sadly does have its fair share of Catholic parishes without a valid Eucharist due to such things as invalid matter (in a related thread, I posted one of the published “recipes”). Unfortunately, in those areas parishes are scarce and many do not have easy access to a valid Catholic Mass.

Without having been present, we do not know what might have led Catholics to prefer a non-Catholic service to the Mass that was being offered. Perhaps it was a temporary lapse in judgement. We all have those.

By any account, if we can project ourselves into such an uncomfortable and desperate situation, perhaps we can momentarily empathize with those who felt they had no other option.

Ah, I see you edited your post.
Why yes I did.
I am trying to stay calm as you follow me around Catholic Answers and get upset.

Unlike CargoPilot and Swiss Guard, I’m not going to give you something to hit the abuse button on.

Although my inbox has been filled with people amazed by you. (that’s what I edited out)

I told another poster that I would be nice on this thread.
I think it’s time to go before you get in a tizzy like the other thread we were on.

BYE!

That depends. What do you mean by “hijacked?”
I meant it metaphorically. Literally, “hijack” means to commandeer a vehicle or airplane. Obviously this is neither.

The intent was to steer things (continuing the metaphor) back on track. This thread was being used to perpetuate a personal argument started on another thread and continued on at least another (both of which have been closed for that very reason).

I find this thread to be very interesting and informative. I did not want to see it abruptly closed like the others.

Trust me the only thing which upset me is your refusing to retract obvious errors, or answer legitimate questions.

You and some others have a bizzaar idea of what is funny or “nice”, and an even more bizzaar idea of how to respond to liturgical problems. (Some may not even be an abuse—just something you do not like)

The disrespect for ordained clergy is certainly wrong.

I ask again

Do you understand people committing other sins as much as you understand them attending a protestant service, instead of Mass?

Have you done anything to correct any of the “abuses” you have seen?

Also private mail is not to be discussed on the board, so I won’t go there.
