Well it’s not officially endorsed, of course. It’s more descriptive. You see them, you think they’re someone’s grandmother, because there’s no habit–just the ubiquitous drab pantsuit, sometimes with a peace sign medallion or female symbol on a chain. Very rarely a cross or crucifix. Her hair is usually steel gray and chopped short in either the retired-man cut, or the ever-popular chicken-butt. Most commonly it’s the most masculine a woman can get her hair without a buzz. She leads the interfaith Taize drum circle and, while she maybe doesn’t openly call for a female priesthood, she all but effects it in her own parish. She can be recognized by the presence of an emasculated, downtrodden priest kept stripped of any power except the most restricted (Consecration) or token (referring couples to her for counseling).
