Lotsa rosaries might be in order for their conversion if they are stupid enough to read Jack Chick tracts.
Oh that woman is into Jack Chick alright!

when DH and I were dating, he moved in with my parents because his Dad kicked him out (I wasn’t living there at the time). I was cleaning his room one day and found on the table a tract called “Last Rites”. That is officially my first encounter with Jack Chick!

I’m sure you can only imagine what was inside that dang thing…and I’m pretty sure my MIL gave it to DH to leave where I’d find it. I know for sure DH is not the type to go buy one of those goofy things.

Yea, your right. It’s going to take lotsa rosaries!

BTW, this is the same woman that took aside my 4 & 5 year old kids and told them it was “mean to pray to Mary”. :banghead:

talk about MIL problems!

I was once a Baptist hating the Catholic church now I am Catholic and I like it!

What i mean by having a relationship is you cant say your saved and a Christian and live like the devil. Being Christian means being Christ like. This just doesnt apply to catholics only , but also to protestants. The bible is the true word of God- Catholic bible is nothing more than the new world translation bible with some latin thrown in…
Latin?:hmmm:

The New American Bible that I am reading is in English. I really don’t know that much Latin.

I couldn’t agree more, the Bible is the true word of God. That’s why I read it everyday

Even the “educated” can be uneducated. There is a fundie minister here who has several doctorates from different prestigious (at least in their eyes) fundamentalist schools around the world, and, despite all his education, accepted everything he was taught as truth but never learned to question anything or think for himself. This man was so extremely fundamentalist that even the Southern Baptists kicked him out. Several years ago, I heard him on a radio interview where he said with great “authority” that the pope continued to receive revelations which he revealed to the world whenever he spoke ex-cathedra. A simple reading of a portion of the CCC (which I copied and mailed to him) would have kept him from making this ridiculous statement, but he would rather spew misinformation than learn the truth. He never acknowledged what I sent him, by the way.

Since when did fundy protestants like him let a silly thing like the truth influence their opinions?

You still hold grudges? That’s too bad. The only thing I remarked about here was back on the first page of posts when speaking about the “Orthodox” which most Baptists have no clue about. I have nothing negative to add as it never solves anything - but only adds to your grudges against me.

I wish you only peace, love and happiness the rest of your days…

Peace…
Well Ahimsaman You have not been put on my ignore list. There is only one person so far who has that privilege. I shall not reveal his name.

You are right that Baptists do not have a clue about the Orthodox.

Hey Jay, aka Katholikos. How can the Catholic Church be brought up at a Baptist funeral? What would be their reasons?
I will answer that question. In the case I spoke about, the Catholic Church was not mentioned, but the wording of the homily was anti-Catholic-Protestant. I have mentioned both because the slant was: this woman has gone to heaven because she left those Protestants and Catholics and became a Baptist. The point is that nearly all of the relatives present were either Catholic, or they were good solid Protestants, thus the comments were an affront to all of us due to the lack of sensitivity of that pastor.

It was different when my grandmother passed away. The Baptist pastor was very considerate about the fact that most of the relatives were either Catholic or Protestant (including Presbyterian) and the whole thing was a lot better than the insensitivity that was shown in the first funeral.

I dare say that if in Jay’s case the pastor did an anti-Catholic rant then it was probably brought to his attention that there were Catholics present at the funeral and he wanted to “save their souls and get them to come forward for the altar call”.

I have never heard of anything like that taking place, but frankly, it wouldn’t surprise me. It has to be remembered that some of these folks have no grasp of history. Even their own.

Hi David Oatney,
You said:

This is a really good point and one that bugs the daylights outta me.
You CANNOT get a non-Catholic to talk about when and where their particular church came from and why. The fact is that IF they go lookin’ at the origins of their churches they will find that almost none are the result of an amicable separation from the local church they came from and is most often the result of doctrinal differences or political factions within the church that went their own way. And for them to claim that they are “New Testament churches” becomes ludicrous in that they cannot trace a line back to the named denom very often and then even so cannot do so all the way back to the original 12 apostles.

WILL they take that long, hard, and honest look at their own church? In my experience…the answer is no…

Pax vobiscum,
