You have more than one? šŸ˜‰

Okay, I also have three. - The LDS Version (in German), the Version in the Triple Combination (in German) and the RLDS Version (in English).

LOL…I can top you.

I have a very nice leather edition an RLDS friend gave me for my birthday. I read some of the Foreward and realized there were other ā€œversionsā€ of the BoM…and I was interested…so I have ā€œmissionary editionsā€ of the following editions of the BoM

Church of Christ Temple Lot (Older RLDS version, chapt. divisons and verses)
Church of Jesus Christ (uses the chapter divisions and versification as the LDS version, updated language…sort of.)

LDS version I got at the Goodwill…triple combo for $2.99

ā€œRestored Covenantā€ Edition, hardback…(Updated version of the RLDS with changes to make it easier to read…one of the favorites of many RLDS(Community of Christ)

Restoration Church edition by Richard Price (Older RLDS version with info on the apostacy of the RLDS church which caused the formation of Restoration Branches

I have an ā€œHIstorical Reprintā€ of the BoM by Herald House (Replica of the 1st edition as it was printed by Grandin & Assoc…Joseph Smith named ā€œauthor and proprietorā€ instead of ā€œtranslated byā€ as all later editions read.)

Wow, what a collection! šŸ˜‰ 😃

Well, I have the Revised Authorized Version of the BoM, as it is called correctly, from the Community of Christ also.
Really very nice and easy to read, especially for me as a non-native speaker of English. I am not so used to read 16th century English…

In total I have: The Book of Mormon (Revised Authorized Version) and the Doctrine and Covenants of the Community of Christ (2007 Edition).

And the Triple-Combination and the Book of Mormon from the LDS Church in German.

Yeah, I have also thought to buy myself the Replica of the BoM, the D&C and the Inspired Version of the Holy Bible (by JS) - I have seen them at heraldhouse online catalogue.

But first of all I think I should earn some money. - I am a poor student and constantely short at money! šŸ˜‰

Yes, I own, from oldest to newest, a photocopy of the 1830 version from the church archives, a 1963 edition (I believe, I can’t find it at the moment), a 1971 hardback and illustrated edition, a 1976 ā€˜gold’ edition with ā€œReformed Egyptianā€ on front and back covers, a 1977 plain white edition, a 1981 edition, and a 1996 quad with JST notes.

I also own a BOM student manual (1996) and my KJV happens to have been distributed by the LDS, 1982 edition.

Now why (since the BoM is obviously fiction, and they say it is the foundation of their faith, and if the BoM falls, so does the LDS faith fall) are our LDS friends spending pointless hours arguing about points of theology? Not only that, but the Pearl of Great Price has also been exposed. When they are defeated in many important areas, instead of admitting defeat, they simply change direction.

Now they claim that because the BoM is ā€œflawed,ā€ the Bible, with transcription errors, is fatally flawed. It is like saying that a book that is 99.9% in error/plagiarized is equal to a book that is .1% subject to transcription error. :juggle:

:coffeeread:

I’m really fed up with it and them.

Why?

Since Mormonism is a cult and all cults prey upon their members’ psyches, they wrap false teachings into our natural human weakness, playing upon our need to feel special, to be the chosen ones, to believe that we alone have the correct answers. It’s a parasitic relationship, one feeding on the other.

In my experience, most serious Mormons (men, specifically) know that there are major problems in their faith, but in order to maintain the illusion and to protect their precious priesthood and thus, their self-esteem, they’re forced to ignore those and concentrate on the positives. This is reinforced on a regular basis with all of the church callings, priesthood meetings, Monday family nights, monthly teacher visits, and on and on and on.

The church and its elders also lie to protect themselves as they polish their image, so it’s not always the members’ fault that they don’t know the facts about their own faith. For example, do you remember a recent instance where I pointed out the facts about polygamy to a Mormon? He didn’t respond because he couldn’t; he now has irrefutable proof that the church had been lying about it all along but has he left the church? Not likely; he likes the sense of community and belonging that he gets from Mormonism and that alone is enough to keep many in the fold, even if they don’t completely buy into it.

The best we can do is try to plant the seeds and let God do with them as he may. Our job isn’t to pick the green fruit.

Though you and I may disagree on our approaches to the issue, even just one person saved from the false gospel of Mormonism is worth the effort.

There is a serial from South Park about Mormonism (actually two ;)) - and in one Butters I guess comes to heaven and god says to him: ā€œI think it was a mistake to only take mormons into heavenā€, or so because in heaven they had to fight against demons I guess and Mormons wouldn’t take weapons to help defend heaven. šŸ˜‰ 😃

In the other one history of Mormonism is pranked. There is also a song: ā€œSilly, silly sillyā€¦ā€ 😃

I mean I do respect Mormonism - shall they believe what ever they want to - but these two serials are just funny. lol

Also in ā€œThe Simpsonsā€ (the new episodes) Bart goes with a girl to Utah to marry her because ā€œMormons don’t take it so hard concerning marriageā€ - and the Mormon Elder asks Bart: ā€œHow many women do you want to marry today? " What only one, are you gay?ā€

The English version has dumb, dumb, dumb. Sorry it doesn’t translate as well into German. 😃
yeah, in German it would be ā€œdumm, dumm, dummā€¦ā€

so it’s not translated to badly. - I have only written silly - because this is the translation of German ā€œdummā€ šŸ˜‰

LOL. :rotfl: ā€œDumbā€ as commonly used in American English means stupid, which relates to Mor(m)on. And ā€œmoronā€ is an old-fashioned word for ā€œmildly mentally handicappedā€ (you write well, I don’t know how extensive your knowledge of American English is)

thank you - well, I am not so familiar with US English. I know British English (International English) better, as I had the chance to speak to a British man to enhance my knowledge of English - and because at school in Austria we are normally taught British English.

I also believe that I speak British English and not US English. šŸ˜‰

Esdra,
I would rather not spend the time in discussion that it would take to get a copy nor do I really want to spend any money on it.

The big block for me is the lack of archaeological evidence for the Book of Mormon while we have tons of such evidence for the Bible.
Well, actually I didn’t spend a long time in discussion with them - I mean he talked a bit with me about Jesus and the BoM - but not really long, then he gave me folders to read and some days later I went to their meeting place (not the temple!) to ask if I could have a copy of the BoM. They gave it to me and off I was. Since then I have never spoken to a LDS missionar. Except with one via email for quite a time.

The episode about Mormonism was accurate on all but one minor point, and even Mormons don’t know it. I can’t remember what that one issue was, but it didn’t effect the overall picture of Mormonism that the show painted.

They do it as a means of trying to legitimze Mormonism. Whether they know it or not, they are so brainwashed into the basics that if they accept the fact that Mormonism is false they will flounder about like a fish out of water. To them, admitting the errors and falsity of Mormonism is not only embarrasing to the individual but shows their ignorance. They must have something to hide behind.
Now they claim that because the BoM is ā€œflawed,ā€ the Bible, with transcription errors, is fatally flawed. It is like saying that a book that is 99.9% in error/plagiarized is equal to a book that is .1% subject to transcription error. :juggle:
This, now, is to support their ā€œapostacyā€ theory. They have no proof that it ever occured so they have to come up with some thing to support what they claim.

Don’t be. Pray for them and try your darndest to make them see the truth, no matter what.

Unfortunately, people who never existed have nothing at all to teach us.

It’s nice to know that moral relativism is alive and well. Do you keep a copy of Mein Kampf on your nightstand, too? And the Satanic Bible, as well? Both have unique insights into the human condition so you could easily take something positive from them.

Nor should you, but the problem isn’t with the book itself, but rather with how the LDS church presents it: as factual and of God Almighty, neither of which is true.

The BOM has nothing to do with Christian scripture other than pieces of it were plagiarized from the Bible. It’s a cheap copy and fails all claims of being divinely inspired.
ummm…there is a possibility that the book of Job was a work of Jewish folklore and not based on actual events either. Job may never have existed. but we have much to learn from this piece of literature. i myself have read the satanic bible, and all the works of anton la vey. he was a pretty good author actually, and did seem to have a solid grasp on human nature. would i agree with his solutions? no i would not. nor would i recommend someone who is not solid in their own faith read them. same with the book of Mormon. ive also read the buddhist bible. science and health, many books from ellen g. white, and all of them make me stand in awe, that God would in his mercy show me the truth of the Catholic Church, rather than allow me to become an adherent to any of these belief systems. this includes protestantism. Peace šŸ™‚

As a matter of fact…I do own a copy of ā€œMein Kaufā€ and the ā€œSatanic Bibleā€ by Anton LaVey…and yes…they do teach me deep thing of the Spirit in regard to humanity…the Light dwelled even in Adoph Hitler…but the Light was dimmed almost to extinction by his hate and bigotry and his blindness to the worth of persons.

Anton LaVey saw only hypocricy in those who professed to be ā€œChristianā€ā€¦and in the ā€œSatanic Bibleā€ I read about a longing to know the Light…and the quest for the Light in a world of darkness.

ā€œMoral relativismā€ā€¦interesting arguement made by man Catholics on this board toward anyone…ANYONE who would disagree with them on any given subject…from politics…social justice…religous convictions…peace and violence. Some only see ā€œviolenceā€ as being physicalā€¦ā€œviolenceā€ can be quite verbal.

The BoM is and can be used by God to bring people into a greater understandin of the Light Within. He can take our brokeness and our failures…and our ignorance…and transform them to be used for His purposes…that millions have been touched by the words contained in this book…is no surprise to me…much of the ā€œwisdomā€ of the Book of Mormon that some people find comfort in is directly from the Light Himself…He is able to make all things work together for His purposes…but it is because of His great Love and Mercy for us that he takes our most base failures and brings about a ā€œmarvelous work and wonderā€ in the lives of those who will only listen to Him…no matter where His words are found.

I commend you to the Light friend…may the Peace of God dwell in your heart in love.
i dont remember the satanic bible talking about a longing to know the light. was this in the enochian keys towards the end?(at any rate, the ā€œlightā€ to a satanist would be luciferian in nature.)they are based primarily on masonic rituals but given a twist. its also interesting to note that the name Mormo is found in the infernal names list. if im not mistaken he is the god of the dead. Mormo Mormon? hmm… i could be mistaken on some things here, its been years since i read it. Peace šŸ™‚

Yes, I own…a 1976 ā€˜gold’ edition with ā€œReformed Egyptianā€ on front and back covers…
Are you saying this book has a depiction of the actual ā€œreformed Egyptianā€ characters, or that the words ā€œreformed egyptianā€ are printed on the edition somehow?

I didn’t think anyone had a drawing or depiction of the actual reformed egyptian characters from the gold plates? Am I wrong in this assumption?
