By the way. this film netted 500 million dollars. Did Gibson give this to the poor? If not, he is on up on Judas, who only made 30 pieces of silver. images/buttons_cad/quote.gif
Okay, I’ll bite. Please check out Amy Wellborn’s blog for an article talking about a SMALL portion of Mr. Gibson’s charitable works. This man BELIEVES what he preaches. It is fairly well known and substantiated that his charitable donations number in the multi-million dollar range (and that’s just to ONE charity). Keep in mind, he never talks about his donations, but the recipients of his generosity do.
A gentle reminder about the “influences” behind this film. Mr. Gibson will tell you that in addition to the Gospel accounts, he was strongly influenced by Sr. Anne Emmerich (mystic, stygmatic possibly - not super clear on her details). Her book is where some of the artistic license comes from (e.g. the wiping up of our Lord’s blood after the scourging - a scene which still gives me chills).
And finally, the reception of this film by Protestants was overwhelmingly positive (except in extreme cases like notoriously anti-Catholic people such as Dave Hunt). One Protestant minister was quoted as saying “this movie has put Jesus back on our cross.” Can’t do much better than that.
