I think that people have known this is a myth as long as it’s been a myth: art-bin.com/art/omodest.htmlIt is a new video against the myth of overpopulation. What do you think?

I think it is good to challenge people’s beliefs about overpopulation. The question is, what do you think?

I’m not sure if this is directed at me or the OP, but I started my response with the words I think. The question is, what do you think?
Citing Texas’s ability to house the entire world population is a red herring.
Assuming you are correct, do you think the answer is population control? If so what kind? Are you personally willing to submit yourself to these restrictions?
“The earth is finite. Its ability to absorb wastes and destructive effluent is finite. Its ability to provide food and energy is finite. Its ability to provide for growing numbers of people is finite. And we are fast approaching many of the earth’s limits.” Union of Concerned Scientists

"As indicated on the attachments, the quantity and caliber of signatories to this statement is quite unprecedented:
104 scientists who have been awarded the Nobel Prize; a substantial number of senior officers from national and international science academies (e.g., Third World Academy of Sciences, Brazilian Academy of Sciences, Royal Society of London, Chinese Academy of Sciences); a majority of the members of the Pontifical Academy of Sciences (the prestigious body of scientists that advises Pope John Paul II on scientific issues)."
I COULD NOT AGREE MORE!!First of all, the website seems to be unable to be accessed (at least to me).
Second of all, large regions of the world starving is NOT proof of overpopulation. It is proof of human greed and stupidity. It is a fact that we have more than enough food for every single human being on this planet to not starve. Humanity just wastes massive amounts of food every year, either through overeating or through throwing it away unnecessarily.
Third of all, maybe we would have even more food if the US Congress didn’t find it necessary to subsidize a certain type of fuel that actually costs more energy than it creates…
The “answer” is not just population control, but a societal change in attitudes. Politicians, economists and developers repeat their mantra that we need continuous population growth in order to grow the economy. So what is the optimum population? Exponential growth is to continue indefinitely? Why? Says who?Assuming you are correct, do you think the answer is population control? If so what kind? Are you personally willing to submit yourself to these restrictions?
Yeah, Malthus could not have predicted the Green Revolution in agriculture, which led to even higher populations in Africa, and even more problems. Also, I don’t think the problem is overpopulation. I think the problem is a lack of respect for the limitless talent and ingenuity of humanity.
Just because Paul Ehrlich and groups like the Club of Rome were off in their predictions, does not mean their are no limits to growth. The point of the video is that scientists have been saying what those who signed that document have indicated for a long time and the world will soon end and yet we are still here.
No, they are counting on increased “family planning” in poorer countries. The statement about the population decreasing after 30 years is based on the current rate of decline of the birth rate globally.
Such as?I believe that the focus of technology on this subject should not focus on limiting the human population but on creating technologies that nullify the negative effects of human population.
The wacky greenies are doing the same thing to the Klamath basin on the Oregon-California border. Not only is this very sad, it is so very bad as to be almost suicidal. I think the wole purpose it to actually create a food crisis.I COULD NOT AGREE MORE!!
Guys, I live in California’s Central San Joaquin Valley. Many call this area the the food basket of the world. Almost everything is grown here, you name it, corn, cotton, grapes, tomotatoes, almonds, oranges, etc, etc… The political Dems in the area have totally raped the region of water to save a fish (the Delta Smelt). Can you believe it, a Fish!! If anybody drives interstate 5 from Bakersfield to Sacramento on the valleys west side, you will see fields after fields just drying up with no farm activity. Thousands have lost their jobs. You can see acres and acres of grape fields just drying up, or you will see large empty lots, with the local farmer usually posting a sign reading, "last year we grew Corn, Sugar, and Cantalopes here, but thanks to the government man-made drought, this year NOT!
Very Sad!!
"The Wacky greenies"…nice choice of words.(not! The wacky greenies are doing the same thing to the Klamath basin on the Oregon-California border. Not only is this very sad, it is so very bad as to be almost suicidal. I think the wole purpose it to actually create a food crisis.
I do have a question, what is a tomotato? It that some kind of hybrid cross between a tomato and a potato? Do they grow on a vine or underground? I bet they have a rather unique texture. Do you put them in salads or bake them?![]()
