Having car problems - missing mass?

If a diocese isn’t able to provide local parish churches for all it’s areas then surely they have to accept that there will be faithful members who won’t always be able to attend regularly.

I think the issue is that people feel “any way possible” comes into play. Most times (as it seems with this one) it’s not even close to feisable.
Well it also depends on how much importance you place on the mass. I’d sometimes drive a good bit to get mass in another town if I missed it for some reason in my town. Some people still have to travel a few hours to get mass every Sunday. It does somewhat depend on whether you can afford it, but really is $40 too much to pay to worship your creator and look after your eternal soul?

Given that he’s just been laid off I’m inclined to think yes.

This is a despicable reply! 😡

OP, I am sorry that you have been given so many uncharitable replies.

Sadly, no one here can answer your question for you. God does not ask us to do the impossible.
Spending $40 for transportation to Mass, when you are not working, IMHO, is not a good use of your limited resources.

Please call or email your priest and ask him for his advice. Maybe he knows someone that can help you out with transportation while you get back on your feet.

I think that really depends on how much disposable income you have.

Yes, Mass is important, but the Church also does not ask the impossible.

Your comments about whether Mass was really important to the OP have no bearing at all, are are indeed, despicable.
You have , in one comment, dismissed the fact that the OP is unemployed and looking at a car repair bill. $40 may not seem like a lot to you, but if you have no income coming in, $40 can mean the difference between eating or not.

It’s very different when you choose to live somewhere where you have to travel to church and to have it thrust on you through circumstances beyond your control.

If it’s not possible to go to Mass without serious inconvenience, then you’re excused. Though if this is an ongoing thing, then you should speak to your priest, because “self-dispensation” should only be used in a case of necessity.

Like five people got suspended in this thread for no apparent reason. Seriously, why did this thread turn into a massacre?

Am I under obligation to go to mass if I am having car problems today and it’s going to cost me about $40 round trip?
NO:slightly_smiling_face:

That condition would be deemed extraordinary; warranting missing Mass. Call and talk to your Pastor

Blessings,
Patrick

…I will offer a prayer that your situation improves soon!
Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be, Fatima, Amen!
